whats is real difference between both. i think PCXP has speed switch near power switch on top WHICH is realy handy as i found out from rotary use so it would be nice to have it there. g110 looks like its still on back from pics. which one to get?
I've spent 26 hours using my new G2 that I just got and I have to say I AM VERY IMPRESSED!!! In fact, I am thinking about selling my Flex and getting another one!
so in other words you are telling that by the end of the day polishing with G2 you don't feel tired from all those vibrations it produces (the first model actually, I never tried G2, but PC 7424 sucks) when you feel you polished yourself more then you have done paint correction?
have you tried out the Griots 6" R/O? it has more power than both the pcxp and g110v2 and comes with a lifetime warranty (cheaper as well). although the g110v2 has the cruise control when it senses it will bog down, some say the Griots is hard to bog down due to the more powerful motor. also, i've been thinking about selling my Flex as well...
From my experience the G has a bit more torque than the PCXP and its lighter, but I don't like where it has the dial. Very inconvenient for switching speeds while polishing. Also I felt like the G had a cheaper feel to it. That's a minor detail and probably only bothers me. I have the PCXP and I'm very happy with it so far.
You can replace the brushes on the g110v2 like you can on a rotary. I just got mine today. hopefully will be trying it out tomorrow.
I have the Griot's model. You can't change the backing plate but mine has been great so far. I haven't used the Megs or PC so I can't compare.
http://www.deltaportercable.com//Pr...OTOS/PORTER-CABLE/TOOLS/LARGE/7/7424XP_F1.jpg The speed dial on the g110 is on the back like the old pc, but the new pc is so close in the location so that shouldnt even be a deciding factor in your choice. The g110 also comes with a BP, bag, pad, bale-style handle, wrench, and an extra set of replacement brushes. I ordered mine from ADS and it was free shipping
i have a flex, griots gen 1, 2 pc and just got a meg arriving tuesday. guess i am too lazy to change the backing plates. use a 3 inch rotary brush for carpet mats. wow. love the flex and hope the g110 is what everyone says.
i thought you can change the backing plate out with the current Griots (version 2), unless it's the 1st version?
I have the model that came out last spring(2009). This is the second version that was released. To be a little more specific, you can change it but it is attached by Phillips screws. If you damage the backing plate you can replace it with another one from Griots but they do not offer other size backing plates for this machine. I guess if you can find another backing plate, from another company, that uses Phillips screws as their attachment method, you could change the size but that just isn't worth the hassle in my opinion. Here is a link to the tech specs on the backing plate that they offer http://www.griotsgarage.com/text/pdf/10925A.pdf Maybe someone else has another trick on how to quickly swap backing plates on their machine. I just use their 3" machine for smaller/tight spots Hope we didn't get too far off topic
if i'm not mistaken, i think you are referring to the counterweight that has the phillips screws. just did a search on AGO and found this and it looks to be able to use other size backing plates (looks like the same thread size as well) like the PC, G110v2, etc, would be able to... You may be right. Actually, I hope you are right. I will pull out old Betsy tomorrow and take another look. I talked to Griot's(customer service rep), about changing the backing plate and he said that theirs was not interchangeable with other backing plates but he could have been thinking about the older version. It would be very nice to be able to move down to a 5 inch backing plate because it really is a nice DA. All three of these DA's seem to be very similar from what I hear.
For me changing to a 3 or 4" pad is a deal breaker, my Festool is one dimensional is this right and if I could change the backing plate that machine would be tops imho.
just moved frpm a pc 7336 to 7424xp ....hated the vibes on the old model. iconsidered the g110v2 but reviews pointed to the pc...will test latter today
