Hi all, First time poster. Heard a lot of good things about this site and hope to educate myself with some good car detailing tips from here. I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to car detailing. I like washing my own car, wiping it down with a terry cloth towel, and then giving it a good coat of carnauba wax. Recently i got into claying the car finish after a good wash. Then applying the carnauba wax. The results are butter smooth!! Anyway, just got a can of Meguiar's paste cleaner wax from Oreilly's this week. It's $4.99 which is a few bucks cheaper than their regular price. But the point of this post is not really about deals on wax, but rather finding out which ones of the carnauba based car wax products out there is the best. I know that yellow #1 carnauba is the best grade of carnauba wax possible. And that the higher the percentage of carnauba, the better the wax(manufacturers can add up to 30% in the product). Question is, which ones out there on the market right now has the best? I don't really care for Zymol products because i don't like paying $50 or more for a can of wax. I'm more interested in off the shelf products sold at the local super retailers like target and WalMart, or advanced autos and oreillys(kragens). Brands like the Meguiar's carnauba wax, their #26 Yellow Wax paste, gold class clear coat wax, the Kit carnauba wax, and the mothers california gold carnauba wax is what i'm interested in. Wondering if there's a car wax comparison article out there somewhere. Any input is appreciated!
The best over the counter, under $20 carnuaba paste wax I have found is Autoglym HD at Walmart. Its a $40-$50 wax through most online retailers, but Walmart has discontinued it and if you are lucky your local walmart might still have some for $20 on clearance. It comes in a black box with a couple of microfiber towels. The next option would be collinite 845 or 476, which some have found at harbor freight if you have one of those close-by. But honestly with the price of gas these days paying a few bucks shipping is no big deal, and it will open you up to a lot more options. There are tons of wax reviews online.
i got the autoglym hd wax after seeing it on here and i love it. unfortunately, i couldn't get it for that cheap at walmart, but for $35 i ain't complaining. try pepboys if threre is one in your area and if they don't have it at walmart. they have everything there anyways and have competitive prices.
