Goggles and long sleeve shirts as well...

EDIT: as Rick Schmit would say "goggles, gloves and aprons"

Damn. Reminds me my summer working at a car dealership detail department and occasionally breathing in the wheel cleaner as it burned the lungs.

I use gloves and a surgical mask, I get looks from the neighbors but I'd like to see them inhale this :p

I just hold my breath when I apply it, walk off and stay away for a minute or so.

Cheap paper mask, nitrile gloves, and on windy days throw on a pair of sunglasses or safety goggles.

Just wanted to point out the obvious for you guys who are using surgical or cheap paper masks. They are doing virtually nothing to protect you lungs from fumes that will penetrate the mask along with the oxygen you breathe. It will stop some splatter (a good thing) but I don't want anyone to get a false sense of security using these masks and get hurt long term. I don't know how dangerous this product is becasue I cannot find a MSDS on-line but if it burns your lungs when you inhale it find another product or invest in a high quality replaceable filter mask with the proper certification and a real pair of goggles. No sense in messing yourself up long term on some guys dirty wheels no matter what he is paying, right? Surgical masks are actually designed so the doctor does not get the patient sick or contaminated while in surgery (ie: sneeze into an open surgical field) not visa versa. I always laugh when I see healthy people wearing a mask on TV news b/c they are afraid of catching the flu (or whatever). The sick people should be wearing the masks so they don't infect the healthy people. You need an properly fit, air tight mask with a replaceable flter system to work in the situation referenced there. I don't want you guy to drop off DB bc your using the wrong masks and get sick, then, who is going to answer my dumb questions? LOL

Eye Protection: I would strongly advise the wearing of safety glasses or visor (prescription eyeglasses are not a substitute) when operating any machine polisher. OSHA requires employers to ensure the safety of all employees in the work environment. Eye and face protection must be provided whenever necessary to protect against chemical, environmental, radiological or mechanical irritants and hazards.

Hand Protection; Gloves- with the verity of chemicals a detailer uses on a daily basis wearing chemical-resistant gloves resist penetration and permeation, and will provide protection against dermatitis and chemical burns. Gloves can provide protection, but they must be chosen with care, the proper selection matched to the hazard is critical as they offer a much needed protective barrier when handling cleaning chemicals such as wheel cleaners and multipurpose cleaners.

Nitrile gloves are made of synthetic latex. They contain no latex proteins and offer excellent resistance to punctures and tears. Nitrile gloves are three times more puncture resistant than rubber and can be used to offer superior resistance to many types of chemicals.
Chemical-resistant gloves resist penetration and permeation, and cam protect against dermatitis, chemical burns and corrosion. Nitrile gloves are three times more puncture resistant than latex rubber and can be used to offer superior resistance to many types of chemicals. Unlike other latex gloves, Nitrile gloves have low resistance to friction and are very easy to slide on –

Respiratory Protection (N95): Materials such as aluminium oxide (Aluminium oxide is on EPA's TRI list if it is a fibrous form) or silicon carbide (Nuisance particulate-Accumulation in lungs) used in polishes and compounds, and powdered fillers
Crystalline silica (polishes and compounds) poses a serious inhalation hazard because it can cause silicosis and Isocyanate clear coat residue represent a hazard to your lungs and may cause respiratory distress. Use a NIOSH-approved half face respirator equipped with a combination filter cartridge should be worn while using them

Consult the current 3M Respiratory Selection Guide for additional information or call 1-800-243-4630 for 3M technical assistance.

For the amount of the exposure Im not worried, you will breathe worse things walking around outside. Like P1et said, spray what you need to do and walk away...... don't stand there staring at it, don't sniff it, don't get too close. But if you really want to read into it, and geek out over equipment and products, goto a paint store and get a true mask.

One time that happened to me. Caught a decent amount of acid to the eyes, causing me to gasp and inhale a breath full of it as well. That sucked so bad. I think that might have been the only time the emergency eye wash station in our shop had ever been used. That scarred me enough that I now either use friendlier chemicals or I'm a lot more cautious.

I'm somewhat surprised there is no particle size listed on the MSDS (which can be accessed here).

Wikipedia says the largest particle size that will fit through a generic surgical mask is 100nm. So do the math.

you guys read too much into stuff, unless you are spraying it with your face 2 feet from the wheel you will get a whiff, and honestly if you fall into this group.............. WELL you are just a galactic idiot and you deserve what you get.

I think many of us are sane enough not to smell the shit, or breathe it, bathe in it or even get it on our hands.

You injest far worse things driving with your windows down....... or microwaving your food in plastic containers.
