Hi guys, So I have a 09 black dodge charger and I was claying it today with Riccardo Blue Clay and ONR Lube (1oz to 500mL water was the dilution I used) and I noticed that with the blue clay it was marring the car. On certain areas like the hood I wasn't even able to do a couple swipes because the clay would just stick to the hood but on other areas I was able to use the clay fairly smoothly although it would still stick to the paint and leave marks- which I had to scrub out with a MF towel. So I thought this was happening because of the clay being blue (stronger) so I went down to yellow clay and the same problem was occurring. I ended up doing the car with minor marring in certain areas and did not clay the hood. If somebody can explain why this was happening...was it dilution ratio for the ONR lube? I was spraying a lot of lube on their so it definitely wasn't marring due to lack of lube on the surface. Thanks! Waseem
I rarely use lube, just keep the water running or have a Spray bottle of water. Also you should knead the clay
Was the panel hot when you were claying? I have had issues with a hot surface causing the clay to stick. Lets see clay lube dilution is 2 oz / 1 US gallon so, lets see carry the one...mmmm... So that is a dilution of 1:64, so for 500 ml of water you should use 8 ml of ONR so you have enough of ONR.
the surface may have been hot. today was a very hot day and I was claying outside. I was in the shade however and had just finished washing the car. The car was sitting for about 2.5hrs in the shade before I started claying it. And also the clay was brand new and I had never used it before. The clay was sticking to everything....even the windows and windshield. Really weird!
I think it may have to do with the heat, try to really get the surface wet as well as the clay itself and see how it works. I know even in shade if it is really sunny and hot the car surface can heat up, only way I have gotten it cool is a water rise off with cool water and put it in the garage. As long as the sun is hitting it, it is heating it up.
It makes sense it may have been the sun since it was the hood that was giving the most problems. One other question....if I add increase the ratio from 2oz of ONR for 1 gallon of water to 3:1 can it still be used as clay lube or does it surpass its ability to act as a clay lube?
I think 3:1 is too high of a ratio, dont think it will hurt but you can mix it at QD level 8 oz / 1 gallon water. More than that you are just wasting ONR.
