How many of you actually .. Wash Dry Clay Wash Dry Dress tires Tape Polish (possibly a second polish with a finisher polish) Wipe off polish with MF towel Wipe off again with 50/50 alcohol/water Apply sealant Wipe off sealant Apply another coat of sealant Wipe off sealant Maybe use something like Wet Mirror Finish Buff out WMF Wax Wipe off wax By the end, and a day or two later, aren't you guys ready to puke?
Nope, I'm fine after a detail. One time I was working with my friend (his first detail) and he was exhausted after a full day of the works. I went swimming less than 2 hours later that night :headbang: I never get tired after a full detail. Its what I do when I'm stressed out or just need to relax :crasy:
Oh Ya, I'm ready to puke sometimes if I do a 20 hour detail or something like that...eyesack87 is like the energizer bunny he's 20
It all depends if you like it or not. If you truly love detailing in every aspect, like I do,the time kind of just passes by. This is the case for me anyway.
It's a lot of steps when you type it all out, but it really doesn't take that much when you start out completely organized with your products rightt here for the grabbing!
Yup, that's the process for detailing...it looks like a big process but it's really not as bad as it seems. I find it's one of those things that if you approach it with a possitve attitude, it will be simple. If you approach the detail thinking you wont be able to do it..most of the time that's exactly what will happen. Mind over matter...but that's just me
Good question. Nope, not ready to puke. I do it because I like doing it and feel a sence of satisfaction when I see the results and the car owner's jaw drops. Yes I'm tired and being an old fart compared to most of the folks on here I need a break between cars but this is more of a hobby for me that pays for the detailing stuff I buy. If you're thinking constantly about all the steps involved rather than the detail itself maybe the passion for detailing isn't quite there. G
if you love it..then you won't hate it...I never get tired after details..I am only 20 though LOL but I plan on making detailing a huge part of my life as it already is
:thumb: This is more of a hobby for me/time for myself to wind down. Something to give me relief from a stressful weeks work. By the end of my detail I have a face of joy and satisfaction knowing that I did it and it looks great. I'll even look at it before I go to bed and say wow. Btw, my wife thinks I'm weird but she must be too because on her day off I caught her taking pictures of her freshly detailed Hummer.
Thanks for the replies. I think it's fun at first, but like the redundant parts like applying two coats of sealant makes me think "damn I just did this same thing". Specially when I've been working on it since morning and it's now 9:00 pm at night. I was thinking ... am I doing something wrong? I cant be, the videos of people polishing work their polish in more than I do. One thing I might try is using less product so wipe offs are easier. One thing is for sure, touching that soft ass paint every time before getting in the car makes it worth it.
I find detailing to be theraputic sometimes. I like looking at the car after every stage, and seeing the shine grow. Helps take away some of the stress in my life. I only do it on the side right now, but I still love it. I feel like a kid everytime I get supplies delivered to my door. It's great. It's also the reason I hate winter, but then it's why I love spring. Oh, and the look of satisfied customers can be very rewarding in itself.
when you write it all down the process looks like more work then it is also it looks good on paper when you pros hit your clients with the bill ..lol..alright,alright i'm kidding
Eventually you do it enough times where it doesn't even phase you. Of course, that also depends on your age and physical shape, hehe.
I remember my first detail, It was in Malaysia so it was fairly hot that day. Had my uncle's car at 7am in the morning, had it cleaned and ready to polish. Was using SRP and EGP by hand. Had a 2 hour break in the afternoon and that was it, the whole detail ended around 6-7pm right before dinner. I was real tired but i just sat there looking at the finished car with a smile before i had to send it back. Pure Satisfaction with a lot of Elbow Grease.
