I'm looking to go out now and play around with it. I've always used the PC, but to get to the next level, I definitely needed this. Wish this beginner luck.

Awesome man, congrats. I've been thinking about getting a DeWalt as a back up. Where did you get yours from?

Plus another. I've had mine (a Makita) for a while now, and in my opinion, two things that can really make your life easier are:

    1. Don't hold the machine with a death grip; relax!
    2. Don't try and fight it. It'll want to move in a certain direction on its own - use this to your advantage.

Anyway, you'll love it. Since I got my Makita, I've basically abandoned my PC, only experimenting with it for stuff like headlights, and the KBM.

  7. Thanks for all the comments guys!! I used it for the first time tonight on my dad's Vette (rear quarter panel) and it was the easiest machine I've ever used. Yes it's a little heavy, but it's so smooth. I barely grasped the handle and it just moved on its on. It didn't bounce at all. The best part is that my arm doesn't feel numb like it does with the PC. I bought this brand new on eBay for $170 shipped, with a 3 year warranty. Now I need to buy a wool pad and some M105 to go with my SIP/Nano combo...oh yeah, and 85RD.

Have fun with that! Practice with your 85RD/finishing pad to get used to the polisher. Run the speeds up and down to get the feel for it, gradually moving up to more aggressive pads and polishes.

  9. Oh, I'm going to have a blast, that's for sure. I definitely need to just use the tool and get time with it; that's the best way to learn.

As stated its all about experience. I would stick with finishing pads for bit they are a bit more forgiving. Best of luck man, enjoy it.

$170? I'll definitely have to look into picking one of thse up.

  12. Like I said, I have used an orange pad already with it...but the problem is that I only tested it on one panel. I didn't have the opportunity to really get the pad primed because I was only doing one small spot. I was just very careful to keep to keep the pad moving at all times. It was very smooth.

Yeah man, right off eBay. The weird thing is that there are actually ones for $159.99 plus $15 shipping. I kind of screwed up getting the one that was $170 plus shipping. Woops. Either way I still got a heck of a deal.
