hey guys i want better lighting than halogens to inspect paint and i cant really afford an expensive sun gun right not so whats the next best thing? can someone help me out with some product info and maybe some pricing and where to purchase it. thank you guys much appreciated
I've been using handheld LED torchlight. Fenix, Ultrafire to name a few. They are quite economical and good for spotting defects. Think a site called dealextreme are selling them and if memory serves me right, they ship worldwide. Usually they cost from 10 - 20 bucks. I also remember detailers domain selling the brinkmann. Check Phil out. (assuming you meant halogen as in those utility lights with the stands and not the handhelds) For fixed utility, I opt for metal halide spotlights. Havent been using my halogens for a while. They're awesome man. But a little bit costly. Check ebay for bargains. Hope this helps. :thumb: TIm
I would suggest the Fenix. I have the TK10 and it has two settings - 80 and 225 lumens I believe. I think Phil at DD carries the TK11. Get the rechargeable LI battery set as well as they go through the CR123 batteries pretty quickly on the 225 lumen mode. The flashlight is around $70 with the battery and charger adding a bit to the bill. I have a Sun Gun, Brinkmann Dual Xenon, Surefire and almost every other light you can think of but the TK10 is the one I normally use.
I used the TK11 all the time and love it alot. As for general lighting, another option that worth considering is compact fluroscent lighting (CFL), not sure how is it compared to metal halide but it is cheaper, cooler, much longer lasting than a halogen.
