does anyone ever get sick of detailing? not like a hateful kind of "sick", but just get to that point where you're doing it so much so often that it gets old. i've been feeling that way for the past couple weeks as im detailing 8 or 9 hours a day, six days a week. and starting next week, i'll be going full swing 7 days a week...ugh. my knees are killing me, im starting to have problems with my hearing (starting to wear ear plugs now, between running a rotary 6+ hours a day and using high pressure air, its taking its toll on my hearing), my wrists are starting to ache constantly. like today at work, i knew there was a hammered black porsche cayman S waiting for me, and i seriously considered calling out because i just didnt feel like dealing with it. i went in anyways, but was just dragging my ass through it alllllllll day. my side work i dont mind nearly as much, but i just feel like all i do is literally eat, sleep, and detail. and since im really the only one at work who can properly run a rotary, most of the time im just running a buffer alllll day.

    /endrant.

Even though I don't detail anywhere near what you do, I feel what you're saying. If something doesn't go the way I want on a detail, especially as far as correction, I get a really bitter taste in my mouth.

lol. I.m going through this right now. Exactly like wha kyle described.

  4. In the past 90 days I have probally only had less then 10 days off. I have been at this for 29 years. :help:

My wrist are in constant pain, I can't here shit. My knees are blown out. I breath in all kinds of toxic chemicals everyday, and I have to drag my ass out of bed every morning. It just all seems so meaningless at times :shakehead:

Other then that,Its all good :drinking2:

I definately agree with you, doing the same repetitive sequence of cleaning day after day drains any enthusiasm out of you. I feel that way too as I am not lucky enough to get regular correction details or anything out of the ordinary which means that I just perform thorough wash and waxes or interiors which is still good money, but gets monotonous.

I do not detail anywhere near as much as you do though, however I think anyone using buffers can relate to the noise aspect. Always wear hearing protection!

well i get tired of people taking detailers for granted. they dont take care of their cars for years and expect one detail to erase years of neglect. here are some pics of a recent interior only detail we did on a van, took 3 people 45 mins to clean it out to be able to vacuum it.

i wish i would get some nice cars to detail for a change. might get an old Jag and Renault, if i didnt blow it by not calling the customer back fast enough

  10. Oh yea, how could I forget. At about the 4-6 hour mark of my day my upper back starts getting sharp pains running thru it also :duh:

    WTF is that shit :gasp:

I had a client right before Christmas whose Great Dane got a case of diarreah on the way to the vet. He was jumping around all in that shit spreading it everywhere :yikes:

I am with you 100%. I enjoy washing my own vehicles, but only do friends' cars now and that's with them helping me out. It needs to be fun for me, not a job.

^Exactly, which is why I have great respect for the professionals who do this type of work day in and day out. It is very labor intensive and while it can be very rewarding, takes its toll after a while.

Billy, maybe you should get your own shop and start doing it. this way you get ppl who actualy care about thier cars and want them to look good, this way you can look forward to each day you go to work. there are days when you dont feel like working based on personal stuff i know it is iike that with me and Nick but you need to overcome that. keep your head up

I'm a mechanic at day n detailer at night. Safety is my 1st concern, I wear goggles, mask, knee pads, ear muds, comfortable shoes, and eat healthy. I'm 24, I been doing this for 4 years, so far the only problem I have is my knees. Jus order new shoes cuz mine is worn. All I'm tryin to say is work comfortably. Maybe a flex lightweight buffer will do you good, what about ractac ceeper? Better shoes? Are you over weight?

I am very careful not to schedule too much work so I still enjoy every job I get. Last summer I over scheduled myself and I regretted it...never again. This way, I look forward to it and I give it my all (not implying anyone who does this day in and day out does not). Give it my all in terms of attitude I guess is what I'm trying to say.

Wow. You guys made me feel guilty for wanting my car fixed up. :(

I never really thought about it, but I am sure there are a lot of people who are extremely grateful for what you guys do, on a daily basis.

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with one of you guys yet -- and I know I am just some n00b on this forum, but I would still like to thank you guys for fixing up all these automobiles. :)

i'm toying with the idea. ive got a lot going on right now, and since im considering buying a house in the fall, opening up a shop might not be the best choice for me at this time period financially. i'm looking at a few houses with disconnected two car garages though, so i would have my own little "shop" in a sense.

thanks for your suggestions. ill be 24 this weekend, and my body has taken a toll already. i have a flex 3403, but i used the supplied dewalts at work. i wouldnt really want to use my personal flex at work as it would see too much use and abuse for my liking, and im used to the weight of the beastly dewalt now anyways. i used creepers at work too, and have comfortable shoes. im in pretty good physical shape. if anything im skinny. 5'9" 145lbs.

i feel what you're saying richy. like i said to misha, im looking into buying my first house in the fall, so i guess im pushing myself extra hard with fulltime work and side work right now in an attempt to make as much money as possible. i still do enjoy my side work much more than my fulltime detail work, but sometimes it just all ends up feeling like the same old routine over and over. i'm considering pursuing a career in law enforcement as well. am i totally insane? lol

im with ya on that. my car is usually pretty dirty. just dont have the time to take care of my own vehicle.

    we appreciate that very much.

vaca would be nice, but i used up all my sick/vaca days this year already being as i was literally sick most of the winter. buzzkill.
