i dont think its too long ill wait till someone with experience chimes in. From what i recall reading you dont have to wait crazy time between coats. my suggestion would be 24 hours to be on the safe side
12-24 hours is what Collinite recommends if I remember correctly. I doubt you will see a difference in durability between 12 hours or 24 so it is not going to make or break durability. I think the most important part is prepping the car properly for the first coat, in my opinion.
I don't wait between layers ... I do two quick layers back to back to make sure I didn't miss a spot. You'll be fine with one layer though. The key with Collinite and most LSPs is a clean & well prep surface.
This was the first Collinite I've tried. Like 845, it has no detergents or cleaning ability, so either one can be interchanged as for layering. I think it's just that the 845 is easier to use, otherwise they're pretty similar.
I always layer back to back. Last year we did a 40' Class A motorcoach with 2 coats back to back and after sitting outside all winter ( 6 months ) it still took Powermax3 undiluted to strip it off. I think you'll be fine.
Heck, I wouldn't even sweat layering Collinite's waxes. I applied some 845 on my G8 over Thanksgiving weekend (after clay and Menz 203 polish), and we've gone through some crappy stuff here in STL since. When I washed it this past weekend, water was still sheeting off like a champ. Of course, being the people that we are, I put some 476 on it just for good measure!!!
At least a good 12 hours as a minimum to let the solvents out gas. I would personally wait the full 24 hours so that you give 845 the best chance possible to let it settle but I don't think it will make a huge difference in the long run or the final product.
With that being said, what if this is on a customer's car in which I will not be able to come back to put the LSP on? Can I apply the 845 and then immediately after a paste wax?
Yes, you can definately do that. You can apply two layers in quick succession to no ill effects because the second layer will make sure that the wax is spread completely and uniformly across the finish. I would still wait an hour before applying another wax that is not a second layer of 845, but you will still get great results from it regardless.
I wouldnt apply another paste wax over the 845 right away. Unless you know the wax isnt solvent heavy, than it might affect the durability of the 845 (which is the whole reason you would use 845 in the first place). Besides, I doubt youll get much improvement from the looks over 845 alone. 845 is a pretty good looking wax.
I have layered Lusso Oro on top of Collinite 845 without waiting and it looked great and lasted a long time protection and beading wise.
What I could do is put down the Collinite 845, switch tot he interior — that would take me roughly 30-45 minutes depending on the car I guess. Then work on and metal polishing (exhaust tips, bumpers etc) THEN it could be time to do the LSP Workin on my...uh, workflow.
