Just needed to rant about bodywork

Long story short, just got my Highlander back from the body shop for some work. The WHOLE car(or truck if you prefer) is covered in over spray. And I mean the WHOLE, like roof, sides, hood, GLASS.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to the car when I got it back because I was in a hurry, how I found out was less than amusing. I didn't drive the car for a whole day, got a ride to work. Came home and wanted to visit my girlfriend, there is some dew and I used my wipers. You know a car that has tree sap baked on the glass? That's what it was like, x1,000,000.

Since there is paint work done, I couldn't detail it for a month, I have to live with it being like **** for a month.

Take it back and make them fix it. Or use some prepsol to get the stuff off the glass at the very least.

Was the work done due to an insurance claim?

Regardless- if there is THAT much overspray, it will require a lot of time to remove.
I would file for a DIFFERENT insurance claim!

What is the chance that the shop you took it to originally would deal with the "damage" using proper techniques? :shakehead:

If its as most of us would suspect, then you'll need to fix it yourself or have a pro detailer fix it for you.

Dang drama... can't anything EVER get done RIGHT the first time??!! :duh:

This is not true- ALL of the overspray can be safely removed immediately.

I know a guy that, according to my Google search of addresses lives approximately 4 hours from you.
He could DEFINITELY handle the task... top notch.

Its paid out of my own pocket because I damaged the bumper and tail light myself. They did the family minivan and and my dad's Genesis coupe, they seemed happy with it so I went for it. Maybe I should take a good look at those cars and see how they are.

I'm going to be bringing back and ask them about it, though I'm not sure I want them to touch my car anymore.

The whole car looks fine, its just all gritty and.... gross. I hate un-smooth paintwork. I'm going to be hitting the glass and in a few weeks the whole car with some proper detailing.

Thanks Ken, I can't afford anything right now, completely broke from trying to pay for school and repairs.

trhland: yeah I do, I have everything except power tools, I think I'll be fine, just have to spend a LOT of time on it.

Why don't you just come by and we'll have a look at it. We can try a few things and see what'll work for you. That won't cost you anything. :)

Thanks Ken! Should I come give you a huge kiss when I swing by? If its not too much of a bother with you, should I make an appointment with you?

That is 100% pathetic. For a bumper job, the bumper gets taken off the car? The only way overspray would have gotten on the rest of the car is if they painted it on the car (which is extra hack) or from it being inside the shop when another hack was painting something next to your truck. I'd go back to the shop and complain and demand that they explain why/how this happened. I'd tell them that they need to reinburse you for having it corrected from someone who's competant. There is no excuse for this. Keepin mind that they don't have to do anything to help you, but I'd be willing to bet in a court of law they'd be forced to. If you go that route I'd document the whole event.

body shops cut corners trust me. i had my door repainted and it has a key less entry key pad on it . long story short they should have removed it before repainting. well they didnt . and a few weeks later the clear bubbled around it. so i went back and they had to re do the entire door. just from not removeing one little piece that takes 5 minutes to pop out and unplug..

Yup - Body Shops are betting on the Law of Averages in hopes that you either won't notice and/or complain. There's way too many out there that totally suck, but in defense to the industry there are many that pride themselves on doing great work. When I ask people what shop they will be taking their car to many times they say the shop that did my friend's car. They figure bdcause that person didn't complain that the shop is good. Nothing could be further from reality as the OP is unfortunately finding out.

Yeah, just give me a call and we'll set something up. 604.561.5121 Sooner than later is best. If you have any porous plastics ( windshield cowels, mirror casings etc ) they may have to be redyed as overspray can get a really good grip on those pieces as they are not smooth and you cant clay them. That is something you'll want to take up with the paint shop if its an issue.

I'm going to be heading to the bodyshop and see what they have to say tmr, you'll most likely be hearing from me soon Ken, thank you!

And I checked the minivan and the Genesis coupe, both are fine, its just my car.

i had my car repaired (at the end of April) and am still in the process of removing body shop polish residue and polishing it to my standards (can only work on it on the weekends). the bad thing is only two of the panels were damaged, but they had to paint 4 panels to "match" the paint.

good luck w. the overspray etc.

imo bringing it back to the bodyshop will only cause you more aggravation. like kb said, if they didn't do the task properly the first time, the chance you'll get it back clean the second time is slim to none.

Called the bodyshop, they asked me to drop off the car for 4 hours so they can polish it. Regardless of the fact that I don't really want them to touch the car, I go to school full time, and work full time. Only day I can live without my car is the day they don't open shop.

I'm contemplating on having them pay me labor for hours and get it done myself. I can do with $200 off the repair price as I'm currently worrying about tuition.
