I got this vehicle as a referral and the owner had told me there was some tar on the wheels. This was an outside job only. No biggie I think and he drops it off. It looks like dirt at the bottom but when I get it cleaned I see that it is not dirt but rather tar...and lots of it! I used 1.5 cans of Tarminator on this car (I have since bought the 5 gal pail, LOL). I had quoted him 6 hours and had to bump it to 8 after I had cleaned it, which I hate doing. For an 8 hour job (that's fast for me), I was really pleased at how it came out. I have not posted a job here in a while. The Process: Wheels/Tires/Wells: Wheels also had brake dust as well as tar so they needed a lot of work! First up was Megs WB on the face and barrels. Zep purple was used on the tires and Zep Citrus on the wells. This got the brake dust gone but not the tar. Wheels sprayed with Tarminator and left to dwell and then pw'd. It was getting dark out and they looked OK outside. Once inside however, there was still evidence of tar so they got another round of Tarminator and removed with an old mf. They were then sprayed with DG FC&S to remove any petroleum residue. NOW they looked good. Next up was hand polishing with DG 501 and sealed with DG 105. Tires done with DP gel. Wash: 1st up was DG Bug remover sprayed liberally to the front. Next up was foamed with Optimum soap (out of it now, back to DG) along with an ounce of Zep Citrus to remove any LSP. Following the foam was a 2 bm wash with grout sponge. Dried with ww. There was still an ungodly amount of tar along the sides of the car which were once again hit with Tarminator...here it is doing its magic: Chrome: Polished with DG 501; Sealed with DG 105 Tail Pipes: polished with 0000 steel wool and Autosol and then a 2nd time with Autosol and a mf....sorry, forgot to get a good after shot of them..they looked brand new! Paint: Compounded with UCCL and a green LCC pad using my Dynabrade. Heavier marks were hit with PFW pad and Megs 105. Polished with DG 501 and blue polishing pad with rotary. DG 601 applied by hand. DG 105 applied/removed by hand. DG FC&S applied 1 hour later. DG AW the following morning. Glass: Cleaned with Zep. Windshield treated with DG Rain Repel. BEFORES: AFTERS: Thanks for looking.
J..Thanks...I knew I was in for a challenge when I saw them..he's lucky he came to me, LOL. Thanks very much. Thanks Piet..not so annoying b/c I had my tunes and 2 cigars.:afro: No kidding, I should have reused it and paved some of my street, LOL. They were...it just reinforces what a great product Tarminator is! Thanks a bunch! Ya, me either...now I gotta get it off of my floor!!
That looked like a tough job, amazing what you can do in 8 hours with all the right products and tools, good job!
Thanks Ken. The wheels were the owner's main concern..I was very proud of the end result...and you know what a stickler I am for properly done wheels! Thanks Dana...when I realized it was Tar along the bottom and not dirt, I was like "Holy Sh!t" You are absolutely right! There are a few products that even though you may not need them often, when you DO need them, they are IRREPACEABLE!! I think Tarminator is one of those, and so is a good water spot remover...I'm gonna get some from Danase...I just got some from DG too..I want to compare them. Nic...it was a very satisfying job for me with the outcome as well as seeing the look on the owners' faces!! The $ is great, don't get me wrong, but if I finished and they were like "yeah, ok, here ya go" and drove off...I'd be bummed. I've never had a job yet where I didn't shock the owner. That's the best part!
