I've been playing around with Lomo style processing on some of my photos and I'm not sure what I think. Has anyone else experimented with this?

    Thoughts?

    Some examples:

    Sorry...

Lomo was a strange, old Russian camera that created very contrasty images with lots of vignetting.

There are a lot of Photoshop actions around online that mimic this camera style's effect.

Here's a link to an article on it:

I really need to get some sort of image processor. What do most of you guys use? I was looking into getting Photoshop but never realized how much its worth.

What did the original pics look like straight from the camera?

So your saying I need to say goodbye to another $600............

I like how it gives the car a "cartoonish" look......it would be cool if the rest of the pic was left "normal" and you culd just adjust the car itself.

How easy/hard is it to get a general understanding for photoshop?

haha. you just asked what we used. I didn't say you HAD to use photoshop. But if it helps you justify the purchase... ;)

Photoshop isn't that hard to pick up for basic stuff, but there is A LOT that it can do. To really learn and use the full power of Photoshop takes a lot of time. I have barely scratched the surface myself.

You could apply the contrast / coloring portion of the Lomo processing to the car only if you wanted to, but the heavy vignetting (darkening of the image in the corners) is a large part of that this style is about.

I'm with GBS never heard of LOMO...but then again I'm still fresh when it comes to Photography.

Pictures look sweet though :druling: oh and Photoshop is quite the program, I've only used it to put the borders around images but it can do so much it's an incredable program.

I don't have anything to contribute, but oh god RS4's are hot... I am putting on my flame suit, but I think they look nicer than the new M3. Although I am pretty sure the M3 could run circles around an RS4 both being stock.

Lomo, as stated earlier was a cheap camera, often compared to a Holga, or a Diana, both plastic cameras, with plastic lens (minimal focus) yet they shot 120 film, the larger film format added quality... the plastic cameras are prized by fine artists, as the images need to stand on composition alone, as there will be no focus, precise exposure... most photographers shoot B/W, in these cameras, or if they shoot color, they cross-process the film... meaning they shoot slide film, and process in film negative chemicals, slide film by nature, has more contrast, more color saturation. color printing papers then printed these images with extra, and often uncontrollable colors and contrast. in Photoshop you can create "actions" that create this effect, google Dr Brown... he has many scripts/actions/presets, for creating this type of image... The images posted are beautiful, very well done, and not overly done... all too often the "technique" overrides the image...

    yeah. photoshop is def. confusing.

Did you use an action you downloaded from somewhere to do that processing?

The lomo effect is definitely one that tends to lend itself to workign well on certain photos more than others. I find that the effect is most striking on subjects that have some reflections in them (like cars, etc.).

Keep at it! Try it on a few other photos and see if you are happy with the results. Post some more up in here!

    Thanks for sharing.
