My contract is up with verizon. Im thinking of going over to at&t to get iphone. I know we have alot of blackberry users here.... Can I get pros and cons ? Thanks !
I really like my iPhone, it's jailbroken, has all the apps you want, etc. It does a lot. The only downside is the rate plan, but I think it might be similar for Blackberry too.
do what i did, get one of each lol. my iphone will be here 32gig black 3gs, i already have a blackberry so i'll be able to compare both side by side. i dont have the tour yet, i have an 8310. but i will be ordering my new blackberry in october.
everyone I know with a Blackberry wishes they had an iPhone instead. Blackberry's OS feels like it was designed to irritate you. they are very glitchy. I only have experience first hand with the STORM. all other experience is from what friends tell me. most wish they dumped Verizon and just went to ATT to have the iPhone, not because of service issues. iPhone can also be irritating because it sometimes feels like a computer without any RAM. Mine has frozen on me 3 times over the year I have owned it(16G 3G). it was easily fixed with a reset. patience yields best results- give it a second. it has good aftermarket, and if you don't like it, it actually has resale value. millions of hacks and apps. blackberry=business iPhone=pleasure and it's getting business backing slowly but surely I'm sure ATT has a trial period with their service. Test it out.
It really comes to one's own individual needs and life style. There is more entertainment opportunity with the iphone, a whole lot more than with the Blackberry. With an iphone you can get a lot of applications, games, music, etc that you can't get with a BB. With a BB, you have the best way to communicate including the best e-mail (automatic e-mail push) and of course BBM. Get whatever is more in tune with your daily routine and needs. I love by BB and would never give it up as it allows me to stay in touch with others in a way I would not be able to with an iphone. Why don't you get the best of both worlds by getting a BB Tour (I love mine) to have access to one of the best portable communication devices and just get yourself an Ipod Itouch so you can have some entertainment as well.
Went from BB to yuppy fone.... I can do more with the yuppy fone, people say BB is the email king but I see no difference, all 4 of my email accounts work flawlessly. I like VZW service better but the yuppy device is far more capable:headbang:
There is definitely a big difference in the way each phone handles email that results in different timing. It is not that there is something wrong with the iphone's email, it is just that BB does e-mail better and faster. Here is the basic difference between the two in terms of e-mail: BlackBerry utilizes push email while the iPhone does not. When an email is sent to an account on a BlackBerry, the message is downloaded immediately (without the user having to do anything) and an LED, sound and or vibration (or all at same time) as set by the user let the user know that he or she has a new message. The iPhone, on the other hand, recognizes new messages at most every 15 minutes (vs. a couple of seconds on the BB) and must be checked actively to see if anything has arrived. This difference makes handling email on the iPhone slower and less efficient; it also translates into wasted battery power as users need to perform the extra step of opening the iPhone’s email program every time they want to check for new mail. And that's the difference between the two email systems in a nutshell.
The 8520 has the new trackpad instead of the trackball, which is pretty nice. However, the camera is only 2.0 Megapixels, while every other BB has a 3.2 MP camera.
My next BB will be the 8900 from T-mobile..not to sure if anyone else right now can get that one. I went from an 8100 to an 8120 with the wi-fi which is really nice. Also for me I love the ability to hack or upgrade the ROM on my BB..though I hear you can do it too with the Iphone.
Hey Darkstar, what version of the Iphone do you have and what did you use to jailbreak it? I JB'd my Itouch and was considering an Iphone but I don't want issues with AT&T for being JB'd. I guess that I'm mostly worried about bricking it and being out the cash. Thanks
LOL, iPhone does have push e-mail, and a lot more push options. I think there is a small fee for mobileme, but it also allows you to track your phone if it is stolen or lost. And when you do get an e-mail, you get a vibrate and a sound too. Ha I'm not trying to start a war, I'm just showing you that it does do that. BTW, the fee is just over 3$ a month for me, but it also includes more than push e-mail, but you do have to pay so I guess BB has an advantage there. I've never heard of any issues, and it's almost impossible to brick your phone. I currently have the 3.0 iPhone 3G 16GB. The only thing I worry about is updating the phone, but all you have to do is a simple check to see if the new update does anything about jailbreaking, in which case you just have to update your phone, then re-jailbreak it which takes about 10 minutes. I don't think there's anyway for AT&T to know at all if your phone is jailbroken, and I don't think apple would know either.
Just to clarify one thing Darkstar752 said, and that is if you get a jailbroken (i.e., unlocked) phone, you don't have to use AT&T for service. My daughter uses her JB iPhone on T-Mobile, so go whereever you find the plan & pricing that best suits you & supports the device. PS I have neither of these phones, I use a Palm Treo Pro. I've had a Treo for several years, love the touchscreen, and I don't need all the internet functionality & apps, iTunes, etc. that these 2 devices have. But that's just me.
Okay, so here's my credentials in my statement. I've had an iPhone 3G, 16GB. Now I have a BlackBerry Bold. The iPhone is great if you like mindless, pointless "look what I can do!" stuff, if you wanna hammer down and get shit done, BlackBerry all the way.
