Was wondering what you use and why?

I know it's easier to pick up 71% and 91%......

After reading about paint swelling on other threads and forums, I'll stop using IPA @ 50/50 ratio (originally 91%).

I've been a hobbyist since I started driving, and the last few days have been the first talk of IPA having an effect on paint (if only short term) that I've ever heard.

Over here in Washington I go to right aid and pick up 70% (10 bottles at a time)

I don't want to go any stronger than that. I dilute 1/1.

The issue is solved though. I am using zaino Grande finale as a spray wax forbthe cheap quick wash and waxes and power lock for the more expensive wax jobs

I know the concentration has to be less then 10%

Below is a segement from a thread at DW by Mike Phillips

    91% IPA
To mix a 32 ounce Spray Bottle

Pour 4 ounces or ¼ of a 16 ounce bottle of 91% IPA into a 32 ounce spray bottle and top the rest of the bottle off with water. This will make 32 ounces at 11.375% IPA to Water solution.

    70% IPA
To mix a 32 ounce Spray Bottle
8 ounces (or ½ of a 16 ounce bottle) will make 32 ounce of 17.5% IPA to Water solution. Get a 32 ounce container, pour in 8 ounces, (or ½ of a 16 ounce bottle) of the 70% IPA and then fill the rest of the container up with water and you get 32 ounces of 17.5% IPA to Water solution.

    50% IPA
To mix a 32 ounce Spray Bottle
8 ounces, (or ½ of a 16 ounce bottle) will make 32 ounces of 12.5% IPA to Water solution. Get a 32 ounce container and pour in 8 ounces, (or ½ of a 16 ounce bottle) of the 50% IPA then fill the container up with water and you get 32 ounces of 12.5% solution.

    +1 for Hamza.

I've also heard it should be diluted as pure 71% or 91% is way to strong.

So what exactly is the alchohol doing to the paint if not diluted? I have had peeps on here tell me that they don't dilute it at all. I was told if u do that it will only make the paint surface soft and more prone to getting scratches again. Kind of like getting a blister in the sun and that area is senatuve to the touch

Mike P. said he once used full on IPA(w/o dilution) and the clear cote actually blistered out and he had to carefully sand it away.

I found buying 100% IPA from the local auto paint store in a big container was cheaper than the regular trips to Costco to stock up on the 91% bottles. Then I just cut it down to 3 different dilutions.

I had been using 50/50 until I saw posts about paint swelling. I had got a freebie Griot's Pre-wax cleaner and started using that.

I too use Griot's Pre Wax. It's an awesome product and smells pretty good too.

I'm hoping someone will do a comparison among Griot's Pre Wax, CarPro Eraser, Menzerna Top Inspection and other cleaners that aren't full of hot hydrocarbons. For now I'm primarily using 20% to 25% IPA diluted with distilled water but if there is a good, affordable alternative I'm interested,
