In praise of 845

I've been on a "back to basics" or simplicity kick lately, and I must say that 845 really fits the bill. This stuff is absolutely bulletproof as far as I'm concerned. I applied a single coat two months ago at my shore house, which held up through rainstorms and salt deposits from the air. I came home two weeks ago and had plans to strip it down and redo a few coats rather than just one. The beading was fine (not as good as new, but still clearly prevalent), I just wanted a fresh stack of layers for the winter. I decided to use a heavy dilution of Dawn, MS Super Foam, and a splash of Zep Citrus in a foam cannon to strip the 845 off. Barely made a dent in it. Did it again with Super Foam and APC, a little bit more removed. Finally a heavy dilution of Zep Citrus with a bit of soap, a little bit more removed. My powerwasher was on the fritz so I kicked it up and put about 4oz of Zep Citrus and Super Foam in a spray bottle and soak the panels. The beading was still there.

Finally I decided that I needed to clay to remove it, and busted out the Riccardo Blue with Diluted ONR at lube strength. After all that, I finally had a clean slate to work with. Just applied a fresh coat, and it is smooth as can be. I know this stuff is detergent proof, but I'm convinced it would last through a nuclear attack. The whole ordeal with the foam cannon reminded me of that song "the cat came back". I'll probably wind up putting 2 more coats (including windows and wheels) on in the next couple days, and hopefully that will improve upon durability and beading/water repelling. This is one hell of an LSP for sure. :applause:

I totally agree with you. I started to use it again and I now find myself not wanting to use my Smaragd anymore and I still have a full tub of it in the fridge. I fully believe that 845 gave my car the same look, it's much more durable and the beading is just insane. Even when I wash it the water doesn't want to stay on the car. It's even easier to put on since I can use my DA;)

I recently winter prepped my parents car, and sealed it with 845. Very easy to use (don't let it dry) and super durable. I might add another coat of it, just wanted to see how 845 will hold on it's own againt california winter...

Seriously, 845 really can't be beat for durability, beading, cost, easy of use ect.

I agree that this stuff is awesome! I've only used it twice so far (my girlfriends car and a customer's), but so far the stuff is awesome! My girlfriends car is still beading like crazy after a month. I plan on putting another coat or two on it before the harsh New England winter, we'll see how well it stands up!

Also, I love how I can use a small quarter size amount on a red CCS pad with my DA and cover just about an entire car with it! Plus you can't beat the price!

We have a ton at the shop, but we also have 2 large containers of fmj left. Should i winter prep with FMJ or with 845? The FMJ is from 2008 and we've been slowly using it.

I'm just going to strip the car down, do a quick polish and then apply by machine a few coats of sealant.

Don't let it dry? You remove it while still wet? I like that it can be used on non textured plastic with great results, I have not tried it on windows.

its a very nice product. Very strong stuff and may be the only product that i've gotten on my hand that was very hard to get off

I use Opti-seal as a base coat to seal the paint and then 1 or 2 coats of 845 over it. Let me say that the combo cannot be beat. It looks AWESOME and lasts forever.

845 is my friend. It is cheap, goes a LONG way, looks great, lasts forever, very slick, and cooks a really mean Eggs Benedict.

Seriously, I use it on lots of stuff. I detailed my Stainless steel Kitchen sink, Fridge, Stove, porcelin bathroom sink. OCD? Yes, but it works. I like beading and things that are easy to clean. 2 coats of 845 makes everything bead and wipe clean with a damp microfiber.

I detailed my fiberglass shower stall after buffing with my PC and 105/205 I put 2 coats on everything but the floor due to my silly aversion to death and let me tell you how my wife loves me. When she goes in with a damp towel and NO cleaners to clean the bathroom. Next on the schedule is a detail/845 for the toilet. Seriously, her idea. I think I will need to find a place that sells it by the gallon...

845 for the winter for sure. Two coats and you're golden.

They actually can't sell it in gallon containers due to its nature. It solidifies too much.

Love 845, the only con is that once it solidifies, it's a pain to shake back up into liquid form!
Still 2 thumbs up for an awesome product!

I just got some a month or two ago and it wasn't in liquid form. I have to squeeze the bottle to get it to come out. The consistency of mine is like apple sauce with a bit of vaseline mixed in. Is it suppose to be liquid? How long do you have from its liquid state to the state I got mine in?

Run your 845 under warm water then give it a good shake to change it's consistency

My bottle hasn't been touched in over a year. Before I shook it didn't move around at all, but 2 minutes of hard shaking made it very loose and liquidy.

I remove it while it is still wet...

I only found out last weekend that I have to shake it vigorously to turn it into almost liquid. I was applying it before in apple sauce type thingy.

It is a fantastic wax nevertheless! I consistently pair it with no.476. Bulletproof!

Over the weekend I took mine out and shook the heck out of it. That help a lot but was still pretty thick; so, I placed the bottle in a container with warm water and its perfect now.

Yes, you can get a good work out trying to make 845 into a usable liquid. I use it on door jambs, and roofs most of the time.
