As Waterfest gets closer and closer, I'm busy trying to make my car as perfect as I can. Most of you read my last thread where I applied the Mystery to my car and the turn out was great. The car looked awesome. Today I figured I throw a second coat on the car to make the paint look even deeper. Washed it with some Lusso, dried it and went to work. I applied the Mystery even thinner than last time and started removal. At first I noticed it was a bit more finicky, but whatever I continued to go with it. I brought out my work light to see the finish and I noticed the wax was streaking :yikes:. I did my best to remove the residue and pulled it out to examine the work in the sun. This is where I get upset. The car had streaking everywhere! You can even see motions of the wax in some cases (thin layer looked like halogramming where I swiped...for eample if I'd go left to right/up or down you'd see the line then stop. Not sure if this explains it well.) I figured I'd leave the car outside as I was so stressed out by it, and I would tend to it later. Well now its 12am and I just got back inside from washing my car. The streaking is just as pronounced as before and its really bothering me. Gonna go over the car again with Super Finish I think, but as of right now I'm so bothered. In fairness to the wax, it was probably 80-90+ degrees in the garage and very humid, and I don't think it was necessarily the SV's fault. How do I wax when its this hot? Do you guys think it's the waxes fault or the heat? Please, please help me guys. Also, I tried using FK425 to remove the residue, but it didn't help all that much. I waited around 10 minutes after finishing the car to start removal. Was that too long/too short?
Sounds too short, but I don't have any experience with Swissvax either, for this exact reason. Sounds like the wax is sweating too. When I have streaking, it's usually fixed by letting it bake in the sun for a little while, then removed using distilled water and a plush microfiber.
I've left my Insignis on for over an hour before while I showered and got ready to go out and it removed great, but with this heat I didn't know what would be appropriate. I thought about the distilled water spray, and will probably do that next time around during the actual removal. Why I didn't today- I was afraid after it had been out that dust and particles would have scratched the surface with wiping. We'll see, thanks for the response man.
you should leave the sv on longer today definitely was not a good day to apply wax. if you have a climate controlled area that would be best.
Thanks Phil, unfortunately I don't. I'm stuck in my hot and humid garage. When I reapply I'll wait at least 30 min to remove, I just wasn't sure with the heat today.
yeh i used to get the hazing with concorso and mystery during summer - can see streaks where i put finger pressure on the app pad too id leave it in the sun for an hour, then bring it back inside and wipe down with the sv quick finish whatever didnt come off, would come off next wash back then, i just thought it was the norm with car waxing just use a paint cleaner, no need to hit it again with an abbrassive, and maybe use a less fussy LSP given how hot it is over there atm
Ah, ok. So spent the day with my Griots and a few polishes and pads. Cars looking great again and I reluctantly put another layer of the Mystery on. It's been on for a good 45+ minutes and the ease of removal now is just awesome. Under my Craftsman work light I can see its not streaking at all, and compared to yesterday I can tell all the oils are dissolved. I kinda wanna layer Mystery and Insignis now though , but I'll prolly hold off. Thanks for all the help guys, and it was my fault, not the heat/humidity nor the waxes.
I'll join the club. It was so hot yesterday that I actually got holograming from applying Jetseal 109 on a 2007 Corvette. I used a clay lube wipedown (ONR and Water) which seemed to fix the problem. I got heat exhaustion and felt like I was going to throw up, and my jaw was near locked up. The last hour of the detail was a complete blur, the owner said he was happy, but I was so delusional that I couldn't really assess how we'll I'd done. The weather is not very compliant lately to say the least.
Jesus man. Get some Gatorade, you got be careful with that stuff bro. A heat stroke is nothing you wanna have.
