I am pretty sad in the way of wash media. I just have 2 chennile mitts (2 from Justin @ Obsessive Detail and 1 from a local guy back home, no name) and 1 very old sheep skin. All of these mitts are going to be demoted soon for either really nasty customer washes or the bottom half of vehicles and or wheels, etc.

I want 1 mitt that I just use for my vehicle after they are corrected which I feel is going to be the RG mitt from Ken @ AWE. However, I also need some :work horse mitts" if you will for customer washes that are nice, just not as pricey as the RG.

I was looking on CG the other day an came across several mitts they offer for less than $8/mitt which I thought was a nice deal. They also have a 3-pack available for $12.95. THe link below is to the page for they're wash media.

Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detail Supplies : CHEMICAL GUYS WHOLESALE AUTO DETAILING SUPPLIES CAR WASH PRODUCTS PROFESSIONAL CAR DETAIL SUPPLY FACTORY DIRECT

Which from CG (or if you have any other suggestions please offer them) would fit the bill for me the best? I have liked using the Chennile mitts over the last several years, as I feel they hold a lot of water and foam and wash the easiest.

Please let me know your thoughts!

I have never used a sponge but I hear a lot of people really like these bad boys. How do you wash or clean them though?

Don't buy the Swissvax mitt. Overpriced and not great.

uber sponges or the the Lowes grout synthetic sponges. The uber sponges are a tad bit softer and smaller than the grout sponges.

Yup sponges are great. I like the Uber or Zymol. They are easier to clean IMO than a wash mitt. All you need to do is rinse it out and squeeze. And they perform just as good if not better than a mitt and won't scratch.

I only use zymol sponges there very good and its way easier to tell if there is a piece of dirt embedded in the sponge vs the mitt

Yeah I find using the Zymol sponge in comparison to my GTechniq mitt is so much easier. It definitely takes more time to look through the mitt after every panel since I have to move aside the fibers and such. I save the mitt to my personal vehicle only now. The sponge is incredibly simple to give a quick scan and continue. It takes me like 5 rinses to get it clean though.

Uber sponge is the best, softest I have found....... I buy them in pairs, it is worth every penny.

I don't like the unicellular cheaper poly foam sponges like uber or zymol. There is wayyy too much potential for marring, especially in situations where the detailer didn't rinse completely and the sponge is doing actual particle removal. With these sponges(even compared to a grouting material) there is nowhere for the larger particles to go and sometimes the "pores" can get "plugged" so you end up dragging the stuff across the paint until its rinsed.

But I will say they flush pretty well.

I personally tend to prefer something with a "nap" a deep pile mitt, whether quality MF, chenille or my personal favorite sheepskin.

I am a fan of the zymol sponge. I usually buy 10 at a time from Chris. I have used all the other mitts as well, I just find the results to be simillar and the price is much cheaper. They won't last as long as a RG mitt of a good chennel mitt, but they do hold up quite well. I eill be using a mf mitt for my next detail, but that's due to other reasons

I have been using the Megs MF Mitt for a few months now and am very impressed with it. For a mitt under $10, its a great deal.

I've had two Griot's Garage Sheep Skin mits, but both are starting to tear up.

They worked great; but were pricey ($27/ea). And like I said, they are both pulling apart.

In fact, I just threw on in the trash after it's last use today.

I'm now exclusively using Uber sponges - cheap, easy to clean, holds enough water and soap to clean each panel, you can easily tell when it is dirty, doesn't get heavy (which could cause marring dragging across finish), cheap enough to have multiples for one wash (if one gets too dirt saturated).

I used to be a "chenille" only kind of person.... Then I met the Uber sponge and never looked back. They kind of feel like a memory foam type material when they are wet and they do a really good job of getting into tight areas.

The most important thing when I look for a wash media is that it has to work. An extremely close second thing is the ease of use/maintenance. After spending numerous of hours working on my car, I want to cut down my time on as many things as possible since I'm extremely tired at the end of the day. I've went from chenille>zymol sponge>CG/Adams wool pads>gtechniq wool mitt. I think once my wool mitt dies on me, I'll go back to a sponge as they are so much easier to clean/maintain after you're done using them.

Is the uber sponge just cheaper than the zymol sponge? I have the zymol and they look pretty similar online in the pictures.

I use an uber sponge and an imitation sea sponge. I like the imitation sea sponge better. I'm not a fan of mitts after having used sponges because they are just easier to handle with the two bucket method.

I believe the uber sponge is cheaper. I forget which one feels softer. Either way, they are pretty similar, and you cannot go wrong with either. Shipping will obviously be your determining factor.
