I am new to auto detailing, I would like to start my own part time business cleaning cars. I am 14 and have been working at a detail shop / car wash in Brecksville Ohio for close to a year. I have saved up the money and was wondering if the MYTEE LITE 11 8070 HOT WATER CARPET EXTRACTOR is a good one. I can get it for $720 shipped with the 15 ft Vacuum/Solution hose and the 4 Inch Stainless Steel Tool. I want a machine that can do the job, and will last and will stay useful incase the future brings me more customers. so let me know if it is worth it for 720 shipped. if you had experience let me know how it performed for you. If anyone has one for sale, give me a price.
:yikes:14 Huh....Well I was 15 when I started getting Paid so Congradulations:applause: $720 is to much to be Spending on 1 piece of Equiptment. Get yourself a Bissell "LittleGreenMachine" and use a Product such as FOLEX to clean with. This Machine will only set you back around $125 I will leave you with 1 piece of Advice....Stay in School, get a good Education and do something else with your life(Career) If you wanna do this as a Hobby, I'm all for it, but as a Career....NO Oh and Welcome to Detailing Bliss, very glad to have you
yea, I am definitely going to stay in school, I was doing this as a hobby, hoping to bring in some extra cash on top of the car wash. I am still weighing out how much I would charge and how long it would take me to make the money back that was spent on the machine. I will think about it. **I started working at age 13, I turned 14 on september 28.
I'm glad to here you will stay in School:applause: :shead:It really depends on what kinda Car/Truck/SUV your working on and the condition of the Carpets...But I would put a Minamum of $45(Porsche911) to over $100 for a Filthy Suburban/Hummer if this is all the Client wants done, if they are getting a Full-Detail then of course you need to drop the price by about a third. I wiil be 45 3 days after you turn 15(Oct 1) so I got 30 years on you JR.lol....you young wipper snapper you:hmph: With a good Extractor/Shop-Vac and a Bucket of Suds and a Scrub brush you could eliminate either Machine and still get Fantastic results
Thats Awesome that your working hard and learning a trade that will always be around. Even if we ever get those cool flying cars like back to the future. I live in an area that has a lot of fields and so I was always busy moving sprinkler pipes and hauling hay and stuff like that. When I was 16 a guy hired me to work on his sheet rock crew. Due to being in school and playing 3 sports I was busy but worked when ever time allowed. I still pick up side jobs eveery now and then just to get some spending $$$, but I have to tell you detailing is a lot better on the body than sheetrock. As far as the extractor goes look in local ads or on websites for a good used on. I picked up my Mytee Spyder for $500 with upright and carpet handles. It was basiclly new. But after dropping my hard erned $$, my buddy who use to work at a shop showed me some tricks. He worked in a detail shop that used a 5 gallon bucket full of HOT water and used a scrub brush to remove all the stains. Then they used a good shopvac to suck up all the water. Tried it with him and it turned out pretty good. But my extractor is nice to spray out cup holder and hard to clean areas like down where seats latch into the floor. I think the extactor still is the way to go. Look around and NEVER PAY FULL PRICE FOR ANYTHING!!! Good Luck!
Your bound and Determined to Spend your Hard Earned Cash. But you know what. I bought a 1923 T-Bucket when I was not much older then you are now, everyone told me NOT TO DO IT. But I already had it set in my mind I had to have it, so I understand where your coming from. If your Heart is set on this $720 Vacume, then I say go for it. Theres only 1 true way to learn and that is to live. Yes Mytee is an Excellent brand, however I could acheive the same results with a 6hp Shop-Vac(Which you will need anyway) and a bucket of suds/Brush.
I see where you are coming from, I will probably hold off on it for now. Really, all the machine does is suck up water anyways, but it does it more professionally.
If you are set on getting a better extractor this is a little cheaper one that I'm looking at getting. Carpet Spotter - Portable carpet cleaning and spot removal machine
