One of my good clients calls me today about his clear coat peeling. I
think to myself "what?? how is that possible?" The clear coat was a
bit thin, but healthy when I last polished it (2 months ago). It was
    averaging about 110-125 microns across the board. It's a 2007 E63
AMG. Also, he's been doing bi-weekly washes, and just washed it last
weekend and it wasn't there. Today it was.

Does anyone have ANY idea what this could be? I've NEVER seen clear
    coat failure like this:

Ask him if he had brought it in to any shop for service in the time between when you detailed it and present. It looks like something may have dripped on it. From the picture, it looks like it formed some sort of teardrop shape.

Yeah my guess was some sort of fluid. I asked him about leaving it in a area he isn't used to going, taking it to a shop. He said nothing out of the ordinary.

wow . . . . . i would bring that to the attention of the nearest Mercedes dealership. The car is 3 years old and might still be covered under warranty. That really does appear to be a tear drop shaped spot on the hood.

The reflection in the first pic makes me think it's a vertical panel.

Yep--that's what he's going to do. I told him I'd help him fight in any way I can.

yeah man i mean if a vehicle is having clear coat issues like that with it regularly being waxed or sealed there is a serious issue there. Sucks that it had to happen to him but things like that do happen. Nothing in life is perfect not even if it's being made by a machine.

I just hope they don't give him a hard time and step up and fix the issue. They charge top dollar for their vehicles so customer service shouldn't be a issue.
