I was hoping to get some insite on how you pros would clean, protect and maintain these matte black wheels. What's the best product and method to use when detailing such wheels. I just want to make sure I'm properly maintaining them and not making them duller. We visit a customer weekly to maintain his daily drivers and one of the vehicles has these wheels. Until now, I have mainly washed them with safe car soap, made sure to rinse thoroughly and dry. Thanks, as always, for your feedback. Here is a picture of the actually vehicle, sorry, don't have a close-up of the wheels, yet.
I did a Ford truck with the same wheels. I used APC+ a 10:1 with a soft brush then put a layer of DP wheel Glaze on all 4.
I cant tell if they are exactly the same wheels that one of my customers has but they look very similar. i used a very diluted mix of opc and water followed by aquawax...i would def be cautious bc they are a matte finish also and seemed they could be stained easily if too harsh of a cleaner is used. I do have to say that i was fortunate and didn't have to use a strong cleaner bc they were brand new. if what you have been doing is working, id say stick with it.
If you are doing them regularly, diluted APC will probably be fine. Sonax full effect, Autoglym CWC or P21S would be safe wheel cleaners if you so choose.
Wow, nice looking wheels on that beast of a truck! Do you have a make/model of those wheels? At least this way maybe we can check the company out and see if they publish anything about the type of finish they use which would help provide better advice. Until then, Sonax, P21S Gel, Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner would be my go-to wheel cleaners for those wheels.
Thanks, since we wash it pretty much weekly the wheels stay really clean. Just need something to protect them. Thank you, I'll keep using the diluted APC. Any thoughts on protection? Thanks for the advice, all I know is the brand, but that may be enough to do some more digging on the companies website.
Wow, I have a client who has a Hummer with Matte Black wheels and surprisingly enough he taught me a trick that he had learned. His wheels are maintained very well so all i need to do is wash with soap and water for the most part. After the rims are thoroughly blown dry, they are all sprayed with Meguiars Natural Shine Protectant and left to dwell on the rims for about 5 minutes. Lastly just wipe them up with some soft microfiber towels and BAM! They look perfect. Give it a try sometime and see how you like it.
