I am concerned about affecting the deep brushed texture. What product do you think would be appropriate? Procedure? TIA!

I would prob go with P21S polishing soap. It works great.

0000 steel wool, followed by your metal polishes

    P21s TAW + elbow grease + a brush
the thing with polishing soap is that you may lose the "texture" that you got, unless the texture was unintended at manufacture time..

The texture minus all the grime is the way the car came new, and I would like to keep it that way. The TAW seems like a good product to have anyways so I will try it out. Thank you all for the great ideas!

Here is a response I made a few days ago for a similar question:

Man, there are a ton of things you can use on chrome! Follow the same procedure that you would with paint. Use the least aggressive method and move up if it doesn't meet your expectations. Here is a list of what I use from least aggressive to most. I have also used Colli metal wax on a small foam pad on my rotary with dynamite results too. I can post an F250 I did like that if you are interested.
    P21S Polishing Soap
Collinite Metal Wax (either with mf or with buffing pad)
Autosol with mf or 0000 steel wool
Presta UCCL or Megs 205 with either mf or 0000 steel wool
    M105 and white wool pad

Pretty interesting replies here. I'd definitely stay away from any hard metal polishes since it's brushed metal. It might be a real pain to get that stuff off using TAW, but it's worth a try...

So how does p21S polishing "soap" work anyway? So it's an actual soap, not a polish?

How do you properly use it and apply it? I might have to pick one up next time I order. Sounds like a cool product.

Actually, I forgot to add, I'd start out with megs WB. It has cleaned up some really dirty exhaust pipes before.

Ya with my experience it acts more like a soap. Unless you are using it on something that is already polished it will help it shine more. But with metals that are not polished it won't add any shine to them. Works very well on whatever you use it on. Plus one will last you a very long time.

    Thanks man.

So basically it cleans the metal?

I'm with Richy on this one ... try Meg's WB with Steel Wool.

This is how I have been doing it for a long time. I have three different grades of wool: 00,000,0000 and it has always done a beautiful job. But I don't know if I would use that combination on a exhaust that has a pattern like this one.

I think you can get away with using 0000 if you are gentle enough.

BTW ... what brand/model is that vehicle??

It is a 2007 Porsche Cayman (Non S). I plan on going detailing crazy on it some time in the near future, and I am putting together a plan of attack!

To all those saying Polishing Soap does cleaning, I have to disagree. It polishes very well and cleans effectively at the same time and leaves some protection behind.

A good polish and some elbow grease will probably be needed for that one.

Clean most of the exhaust gunk with a strong APC or Degreaser first.
