Wasn't exactly sure where to start this thread so I started it here. I was inspecting my Black Dodge Charger yesterday and I noticed some of the paint has chipped away in the front hood right above the front fascia. The area that is bare metal is about 1cm x 0.25cm so its very small but still very frustrating never the less. What should I do to restore it? I know that if i don't do something about it soon it's going to start to rust so if somebody could help me out and let me know what needs to be done asap on how to repair that I will get on it right away. THanks! Waseem
I dont know if this is the best way but this is the way I have done it. Wash the area well and dry, take full strength IPS on a swab or MF and clean the area around the ship. Shake up your touch up paint and put some onto a business card and use a toothpick to take some paint from that blob and fill in the paint chip. Dont worry if there is a "blob." Once the paint has fully cured wet sand the blob down to smooth, normally I can get away from 1000 grit then 1500 then if needed 2000 grit. Make sure you keep the area well lubricated when sanding, once hat is done clean the area with a IPA wipe down and use a orange pad with a compound or a polish that is able to take out 2000 grid marks. I have used Optimum Compound II and or Menz SIP, then use a finish polish and put a coat of wax or sealant to protect the area. Like i said thats how I do it, but there may be a faster and or better way.

Thanks for the replies guys, I also have one other question to add to add to that. I don't have a PC, or any rotary buffer so any wetsanding I do will be visible. Would I be able to hand polish the area out using Menzerna SIP? Thanks, Waseem
Very seriously doubt that SIP by hand will do much....If you don't have any stronger compounds Meguiars Scratch X is available just about everywhere
I dont think you can get 2000 grit marks out by hand. I could be wrong, maybe you can see if anyone around you has a PC or this would be the perfect time to get a Flex or a PC. As Charles said maybe Scratch X or similar will take some of it out, I have not tired to so I would not know off the top of my head.
you probably can compound them out by hand but i would try one small area 1st and then try to do it by hand. use lots of pressure and do it quickly. you will be surprised by the heat you generate. DO NOT FORGET to stay away from edges, even by hand as the paint there is thin. LANGKA is your best friend to level chip repair at edges. It is a viable option for anywhere actually. If you plan to do multiple chip repair on an ongoing basis, you really should invest in a Langka kit...there is even a dvd available for how to use it. Follow up your compound with polish and you'll be good to go.
