So my GLK has gotten its first rim battle scar on the 20"s driven by someone else other than me. Now i want to fix it (with pics later when it comes back again). Im looking at prob... sanding dabbing silver paint dabbing clear coat then polishing it cant fix the chunk of tire that got cut off but i at least dont want to make it as visible.
you'll need some kind of filler to make the actual repair, then something like these two should work nice: http://www.detailersdomain.com/1zeinszettself-etchingprimerhaftgrund.aspx http://www.detailersdomain.com/1zeinszettsilverspraypaint.aspx
ok here it is, a bit out of focus but yah thats the damage prob gonna just go for a touch up paint marker for now since getting it re-done is 150-200 bucks with buying the stuff to fix it nearing 100 at the end.
that is not bad at all......... , i would just clean it up, prep it and paint it. Nobody will really note it unless they look for it.
yea gonna go and grab a touch up paint pen tmr at mercedes still hurts my heart seeing damage to my cars lol
Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, VW, and most other European OEMs use a cast aluminium alloy wheels. They're usually painted silver and have a clear coated finish. 1. 1z 'Haft-Grund' Self-etching Primer - bare metal (steel or aluminium) wheels should be primed first with a self' -etching primer and is lead and cadmium-free Applied under a topcoat of urethane paint provides a secondary method of protecting the steel from corrosion. This primer bonds to bare metal and forms a base suitable for synthetic resin, acrylic lacquer and nitro combination paints. A single can will prime two wheels Warning - Do not use this primer on painted or clear-coated wheels where you are touching-up scuffs and scrapes. A self-etching Primer is for use only on wheels that have been taken down to bare metal. 2. Wurth German Alloy Silver Wheel Paint (Aerosol) can be used as a spot touch-up or whole wheel repaints, one can is enough to coat two complete wheels. This paint is unusually user-friendly, it’s a fast-drying lacquer that matches the standard allow wheel paint use by Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi and most other European OEMs. One aerosol restores two complete wheels. to match the OEM gloss of new vehicles 3. Wurth European Blend Lacquers (Aerosol) - used for all German (silver) painted wheels, to match the OEM gloss of new vehicles. This paint is unusually user-friendly, it’s a fast-drying lacquer that matches the standard allow wheel paint use by Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi and most other European OEMs. Wurth German Alloy Silver Wheel Lacquer can be effectively used for spot repairs or full wheel restoration. One can is enough to coat two complete wheels. For the best results, use at temperatures between 70 and 90.0F
I would agree with the Wurth wheel paint, we have it and it is a close match to most German silver wheels.
mmmm I went to the parts dept for some touch up paint but they had so many silvers that its just impossible to match closely. What they recommended me was to wait till winter is over then look to getting it refinished for 200-250~ The current temperatures isnt good enough for those wurth sprays, well hopefully I dent that rim and i get it replaced via mercedes hazard insurance lol
I agree I would not spray paint outside in low temps. Wait until you can get it prepped properly, paint it the correct temperatures, and allow proper curing. Doing this inside a heated garage/shop with the wheel off is going to give you the best results.
