The new Optimum Opti Coat has gotten really popular in the last couple of weeks and I have had a lot of pm's and e-mails asking how to apply the product, so I figured I would give a little writeup on how to apply it. I've applied the coating to several vehicles as well as an enclosed trailer and a boat. I have another boat to Opti Coat here in the next couple of weeks that I will post pictures of. First off, the coating is only available to a professional detailing business due to liability issues and a liability has to be signed before purchasing the product. The Opti Coat comes in a 40cc syringe, that is enough to do at least 4 vehicles. Opti Coat can be applied to paint, glass, exterior plastics, and wheels. Before you apply the coating you want to make sure the surface you are working with is free of swirls, scratches, etc. I always claybar and do paint correction to every vehicle before I apply the coating since the coating will lock in whatever is underneath. After polishing you want to do an alcohol wipedown or use a wax remover product to get the surface completely clean to get the best bonding. To apply just squirt a few drops of the coating out of the syringe onto a foam applicator, microfiber towel or a microfiber applicator can also be used, this is personal preference really. To me the product goes further using foam. Spread the Opti Coat onto a panel at a time and you want to apply it as even as possible, the product starts to evaporate pretty quickly as you are applying it(very similar to Opti Seal). All of the areas that were applied too thick will leave a haze, just take a microfiber towel and lightly buff over these areas to make everything look even. I buff off the excess within 5 minutes. Opti Coat cures within 30 minutes, after this, if there are any hazy areas, the only way to remove them is to use a compound with a machine polisher. This is why it is very important to take your time and just do one panel at a time. If you want to apply a second coat to ensure even coverage, it is best to do it within 15 minutes after the first coat. After the coating has cured, additional layers will not bond. I've also got a lot of questions on if you can apply a wax over the coating. A wax can be applied over the coating if you desire, it isn't going to hurt anything, but there is really no need to apply a wax, this is just personal preference. If you are a detailing business and want to offer this to your customers, you can can make some pretty good money off of this product. We offer the coating at a starting price of $250 for a smaller car and on up for larger vehicles, this doesn't count any paint correction, this is just the price to apply the coating. Applying the coating after restoring headlights is also a good money maker. If anyone else has any other questions on the Opti Coat feel free to ask, I hope this helps!
