How much water does a typical detail use?

I'm looking into getting a tank to provide my own water for going mobile.

Can anyone ballpark me some numbers on what size tank I should get?

Typical wash includes: Pressure rinse, Soak with Gilmour Foam gun, two 5 gallon bucket wash method, and a rinse.

Or perhaps what size tank do some of you use, that could do 2 cars on one fill up?

Your pressure washer will determine how big a tank you will need. Most small electrics will flow 1.4 - 1.9gpm. From there you can figure out how much time it takes to do a pre rinse, wash and final rinse and that will tell you how much water you'll need per vehicle.

Thanks further info. I see lots of 125 gallon and 275 gallon tanks on craigslist for cheap. Think a 125 will get the job done?

    ya 125 gallons is plenty.
Mine is about 70 and depending on the size of the cars I can sometimes squeeze out 2 full details. I use an electric pressure washer (kranzle 1120t).
I tend to use a lot of water also...ie: Pre-rinse, foam, rinse, wash, iron-x, rinse iron-x, foam again and a final rinse. Then after paint correction is finished I will wash again.
