I was using my Troy-Bilt 2550psi gas PW yesterday and the engine shut off while running, I believe I ran out of gas. So I put more in and checked the oil level than went to pull the starter and it would only pull out about 3 inches before recoiling back, like something was preventing it from coming out further. Yes other than a broken pull starter my main problem was buying a gas powered PW in the first place!...I know they suck but I have to deal with it, I went through 2 electric karchers befor buying this one so I figured gas was a good choice..should have bit the bullet and bought a cam spray. I digress, anyway the engine on my PW is Briggs and Stratton, I went and took over the red engine cover to check what was going on but I couldnt see much, I would need to take off the pull start housing but its secured by some starge screws which I cannot get out. So anyone know why this happened and how to fix my broken pull start? Any help would be greatly appreciated:mounty:
You've had PW's before so I can only assume that you pulled the trigger to release the preasure in the hose...
the "strange" screws are either Hex head, allen head, or Torx head screws. if anything im sure releasing pressure will do the trick. but what surprises me is that most gas PW's have a bypass when once theres enough pressure built up, it will stop the impeller that pressurizes the water but leaves the engine running. so if it stalled itself due to excessive pressure then you might want to contact a local store that specializes in small engine/mower/tractor sales and see if they can help you out how to repair it. shouldn't be too hard really, small engines don't have nearly as many parts as an automobiles engine
