Hey guys, I've seen some of the posts say they can do an entire car with as little as 0.5 ounces of sealant. How is this possible? Especially when the applicator pad seems to absorb a good deal of it. When you apply the sealant should you be able to see a layer of the product on top of the paint? Sometimes when I try to use a little amount, the applicator seems to wipe the sealant clean off of the paint so I wind up using a lot of product so I can actually see a layer of it on top of the paint. Also, how long do you guys recommend before reapplying Jetseal109? How do you tell? How long before reapplying a wax on top of the sealant such as CG 50/50? Thanks in advance.
A lot of it depends on surface prep. A properly clayed and polished surface will use less sealant. It will spread easier and go further.
Jetseal has a faster cure time than most sealants. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but the rule of thumb for average sealants is 12 hours.
In my opinion, the best way to apply liquid type sealants is with a Porter Cable and a finishing pad. I can get super thin coats this way. I virtually never apply liquid sealants by hand, by hand you just can't spread them as thin and you use alot more product.
i have the same problem. Ive been trying to use less, but find that i miss some spots or dont get even coverage because i can't see the product, especially on lighter colors. This would probably be best remedied by two thin layers, but sealants usually have a 12 hr cure time so something like 1000p, jetseal, or werkstatt ajt would be your best options because they can be layered quickly.
That's how I apply it and I feel it spreads so much more evenly that way. Btw, I like it even more now that I'm using the 4" CCS pads as opposed to the 6.5" pads. The 4" rule!!:headbang:
I agree, prep is the main key. I also depends on what kind of sealant you are using. The ones that are harder to work with will usually take even more per application, making it even harder to apply/remove. Super-easy ones (Wolfgang, 4* UPP) will take much less per application and are a breeze to apply/remove, especially when using proper tools. I personally do like Jetseal, but I don't rave about it. $40 for 16 oz is quite expensive, and it's durability sucks...Easy application, but not super-easy...I'll take Wolfgang 3.0 any day over Jetseal.
I would also add that the type of applicator used makes a big different. Those microfiber applicators absorb a lot of product and I don't care for them. I like the soft foam applicators the best and they absorb a lot less product.
I can do 3x of zaino on a C5 vette with 1/3 of an oz. I use either the zaino apps or BL used to have the green TW MF apps that are the shizzle. With zaino I spritz the app with some Z6 first and that helps to spread it thin.
See I'm the exact opposite. I found that when I used to apply sealants via the PC I used a lot more of it and I mean a lot more. Now that I apply by hand with the CGs Stage 3 applicators that I hardly use any sealant at all. I can do a full size vehicle with about an 1 oz or less of sealant. Heck when I fell in love with Jetseal I was really going through it with machine application so I stocked up through various trades. Well I switched to hand application after talking to guys like FMINUS and AL-53 and I have barely made a dent in the other bottles. Count me in on the group with Pirex that gets that kind of durability out of Jetseal.
looks like all you guys know every trick in the book. Thanks for sharing. It has been very interesting. I don't disagree with any of it but where is the fun. Everyone is busting there ass trying to save product instead of enjoying what they are doing. I would rather use what it takes for product and be totally engulfed in having fun and taking pride in the task at hand. I'm also glad that Jetseal came back out on top although I do think It's exspensive. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this matter. Thank you
same i get great durability from js 109. i am on 4 months going strong with js and SV CR..both one coat.. i bet with 2 of each i could get to 7-8 months. but today i am gonna go do the 335 again..it's filthy outside only.
It cannot be emphasized enough ‘Apply products very sparingly’ Ease of product removal is inversely proportional (less product easier removal) to the amount used Using a Red LC CCS primed pad will ensure a micro thin layer
I do sealants by hand..I tried a PC and used way more than by hand..plus i can do it as fast as a PC by hand..... I use a baby medicine syringe...I fill it with my sealant....I mist my Foam pad on my Polish Pal.(.best tool going for doing hand applications....) with something like DG marine detailer..just a quick mist..then add a glob about a little bigger than a nickel size...work a panel at time like this...the syrindge holds a ounce ..when done I used about 1/3 of the product... polishin pal Pinnacle Polishin’ Pal is an ergonomically shaped urethane handle that holds specially designed foam pads using tough hook & loop backing. use this with the 4" soft finish pads (red or Blue or black) AL
