On the 1994 Jag XJS I pick up next week there is a lot of real wood trim. How does one care for wood trim like this?

You could use the Swissvax Wood Polish

What about real wood trim that is coated (I assume clearcoated) like on most Lexus models (for example the GS series)? Is it a good idea to polish them or no?

    Wood Trim

The ‘wood’ trim in most vehicles (some Aston Martin, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus and Mercedes Benz models use real wood) which is protected with a urethane clear coat, polyurethane or a thin lacquer, which is very easily scratched.

    • Clean with a chemical cleaner (Klasse All-In-One or Zaino Z-AIO) and then buff with a clean micro fibre towel
    • Remove scratches with a fine polish (Menzerna PO85RDor 3M Plastic Polish and Cleaner)
    • Maintenance- use an anti-static plastic cleaner (Iz einszett Cockpit Premium) which includes UV protection, alternate by using a clean damp micro fibre towel

Im with Towgt - have used Zaino AIO (all in one) for years on all kinds of wood trim as described above, and it absolutely works ! It has very mild abrasives in it and cleaners to make wood trim clear up and take on a just oiled wood look, without the oil, and you get a layer of Zaino on there to boot !
It is not strong enough to remove deep scratches in wood, but other fine polishes should be able to do this. Just be careful, there is not much coating on here, Think you are polishing fine expensive wood that belongs to someone else, and you dont want to wreck it. :)
The scratches on the Console area are always the hardest to bring down because that is where keys, etc., get thrown, so they are usually deeper, and some will probably never come out..
