Hi everyone i was just wondering if anyone had any experience in dealing with a Honda S2000? I have recently measured the thickness of the paint on the car, the rest of the car was showing between the range of 140 - 180 microns but on the bonnet of the car it showed 60 - 80 microns. If im not wrong the bonnet was pretty light it might be an aluminum bonnet? Im not too sure. The paint work is all original factory paint. I am planning to polish the car with the makita but due to the weird Paint thickness reading on the bonnet i have pulled back. Could someone shed a light on this please. Thanks Kogenx
With a paint thickness rating of 60 -80 microns, it would be unwise to use anything more abrasive than a finishing polish or a glaze. Megs #80 Speed Glaze would be perfect for this application. ( the hood anyway) I recently did an Infiniti GX37 that had readings as low as 64!! Err on the side of caution. Happiness is never having to say you're sorry.
heya 911. thanks for the advice.. i have only got the menzerna range.. the main issue is that the bonnet is filled with swirls lol. was thinking of using 85rd with like a black pad? whats your opinion on that? thanks
The hood(bonnet) on the s2000 is in fact aluminum. I'm just gettng into the detailing game, so I'm not sure what effect aluminum has on a PTG, but yes, the hood is aluminum.
I've hammered on a few S2000s (I own one) and yes, the paint is VERY soft (I have hologramming after 106fa/white) but you can really go agressive as long as your smart about it. Don't spend 5 minutes with wool/compound in a 2'x2' area.. Use common sense . But yes, the hood is aluminum but every thing else is stamped steel. Don't be scared of the low readings.. just be very careful on edges. Like I said, I've done a few S2000s and have hammered on them
Probably could go with some SIP on it. I am a previous owner, and I had a PC at the time, and hit mine with SIP/orange pad combo. Good luck.
