Well, this morning at 10am this car showed up at my warehouse. It was dirty, but not filthy. It had some swirls, but not a ton, it had personality. Oh yeah, she was loaded with personality. This is the kind of car I dream about. Some people dream about Ferrari's and Porsche's...I dream about true American Muscle. The car in question? 1970 Pontiac GTO JUDGE First thing to mention, this is a real, numbers matching Palladium Silver GTO Judge. This is not a clone or a rebadged Tempest, it is a true Judge, PHS (Pontiac Historical Society) documented and all that. The car had a frame off restoration 17 years ago. The paint is 17 years old. The windows are about to turn 40, all original glass. The car has upgraded C5 Z06 brakes, Hotchkiss full suspension, a built motor (550+ RWHP) and no power steering or air conditioning. The owner has kept all of the original parts to put it back to numbers matching stock if he so desires, but hell, a car like this is meant to be enjoyed, not doted over in a museum. On to the detail and the pictures! Products used: wheels, arches and tires: CG Sticky Wheel Gel CG Bare Bones MS SGS PBW APC EZ Detail mini and full size Uber BH wheel face brush SV wheel brush trim: Mothers chrome polish interior: Shop vac Race Glaze brushes SV interior brush 1Z plastic and vinyl cleaner 1Z Cockpit Premium PBW Natural Look Mothers Chrome Polish Leather Masters cleaning and conditioning system wash, clay, polish, glaze, seal & LSP: DP foamy soap in gun MS Ultra Gloss in bucket Uber sponge EZ Detail mini and regular brushes Riccardo Yellow clay ONR/water mix for clay lube Menzerna P203 White 3M UK pad FLEX 3401 FLEX 3403 3M UK backing plate Uber 3" backing plate Various Uber pads 1Z Final Finish glaze CG BLITZ sealant Pinnacle Souveran (customer request) wax Various MF towels Dodo Juice Red Mist to top it all off I first did my usual wash and wheel routine, then moved her inside to be clayed. The Riccardo Yellow did work! The areas with over spray from a front fascia touch up were cleaned up perfect and the rest of the car just glowed after claying. The paint, even for it's age, was smooth as glass. There were not a ton of swirls, so I decided on 1 pass with Menzerna 203 and a white 3M UK pad. This turned into a white Uber pad after half of the car as I was not happy with how fast the UK pads gummed up. Did I mention it was humid as all hell out today? lol..anyway, I finished the 203 with some 1Z Final Finish glaze. I really am beginning to like this stuff, I should have tried out the 1Z Intensive Paste today, but totally forgot. Then I hit the car with BLITZ. While it was curing I did the tires with VRP and the glass with Adam' glass cleaner and did the interior and leather. I have to add, the owner was doing most of the interior while I did the exterior, so don't think I did a complete interior with leather cleaning while I waited for sealant to cure..lol. After that a layer of Souveran was applied via the FLEX and a black Uber pad. The car was wiped down, sprayed and wiped with Red Mist (my closer!) and rolled out into the blistering Seattle sun! Here are some pictures, I hope you like it! Finished Thanks for looking!
that silver is looking so wet. excellent work Spyral! :applause2: glad your liking that 1Z final finish!
Sweet Ride, Outstanding Detail Spyral..........:applause: :shead:Were those stickers or were they painted on? :shead:Why the Tape? I noticed the NHRA sticker....Nice, are you going to the track tommorow? This was well worth the wait, I love Hot Rods :chips:
Sypral..the Jury does not need to go out to render a decision....Great work! Judgement day for the Judge..OK..enough puns. Seriously, the car looks great.
The stripes are reflective stickers, they are part of "The Judge" package, that right there is legendary American Muscle at it's finest. A rare breed, for sure. I taped off the reflective stripes so I wouldn't damage them or cake up polish on them. I wasn't sure how the reflective surface would react to Menzerna..lol This car is a regular track warrior with the gobs of (now removed) rubber in the rear tire wells to prove it.
:gasp: I here ya on the Menz-vs-Decal, why chance it. lol I know that beast can lay some rubber, but when I was asking about going to the track I meant the Northwest Nationals in Seattle this weekend. You wanna see some rubber laided down check that out tommorow if you have a couple 2 or 12 hrs to spare.:righton:
I see! I usually go every year, I totally forgot it was today and tomorrow! I may make it down there.
Tell me some more about the 1Z Final Finish glaze and how you think it works on the PBM or other silver cars. I found it here, in 5l though, jebus, not a bad price though: http://www.autogeek.net/einszett-wax-finish-5l.html It seems as though it's more of a finish, not a sealant though. Guess I would put this on last step and then apply the wax on top of it?
Great work Spyral on a classic piece of Americana! I've never tried putting wax over Blitz before but you got some great results.
