How bright of a LED light do you have. I have found that you need apx 100 Lm to get good results. Look at the surface in a shaded area, in a garage or cover so the sun does not interfere with it as sometimes it can make it harder to spot.

If the car is a light colour, its almost impossible to capture defects with any type of light indoors. I have 250 -1000 watt halogens, 2 LED lights ( up to 225 lumens) and a Sun Gun and even with all these I still can't see very well on light colours. MAybe you should do what Scottwax from Autopia does and just do all your polishing out in the sun! Just kidding. DSMS had a good idea when he said to turn off the lights to help the LED show off the defects better.

Turning all the lights off and just using my light does help on light colored cars. Dad has a silver Pathfinder and using that method has helped alot compared to working in a lot area.

I am assuming you are having difficulty with spotting defects on light colred paint (white/silver)

    Is so:

All lights off and halogens as a backlight really helps

Sometimes putting on my sunglasses helps (sounds strange I know)
