Whenever I have my Halogens and Metabo on at night my Circuit breakers turn off. So what do I change to swap out for whatever to work?
You first need to see how big the breaker is thats tripping. After a breaker trips a few times they become weak. If its a 15amp you may need to get a 30 to handle the load. Or use a diferent plug for the lights.
Is that a big operation to swap out the breaker? Whats the cost? And we are just talking about that big box with all the switches right?
Its been forever that Ive had to swap a breaker so I dont remember what theyre worth. Im gonna take a stab at $15 for one. They simply just pop out and you clip the new one in. The breaker will be the switch that you physically flip off then back on after they trip.
Oh its just the little swtich? I was thinking about the ENTIRE BOX. That seems simple, but then again, Im asian...... Experts at electronics, Death at Electric......
Yeah its just the switch that you will have to swap out. Well atleast thats how its done in Canada.....................Mabey post a pic of your breakerbox just to make sure:gasp:......Id hate to see ya get shocked
Well I'm no expert becuase I'm just apaper pusher hahaha...but if you need change the breaker you don't necesary need to replace the box...not unless you running out of room on the box itself. oh and breakers are not cheap..depending on size they could cost over $100...I think a 30Amp breaker costs about $30 to $50 but I could be wrong. oh make sure you turn off the power...or main breaker just in case :thumb:
Yea..I could be out to lunch on this...I think I paid over $100 with the box and the breaker can't remember it's been a wile since I looked at prices on th electrical stuff.
I was about to say exactly the same. The breaker is meant to save the circuit (the wiring in the wall). If you upgrade the breaker, no more protection. It is possible that the wiring can support a bigger breaker then what is tripping now. You'll probably have to at least ask an electrician about this one. And just the simple fact that your halogens and metabo are tripping the breaker makes me think that either somethings wrong in the circuit (one of the things you have plugged in or the wiring in the house/garage), or its a weak breaker.
FMINUS...just wondering..does the garage have it's own electrical panel? Or are the plugs interconnected to the rest of the house? Just wondering that's all.
Aren't the breakers on that circuit usually that amperage for a reason. And obviously if you are tripping the breaker then the circuit is overloaded. More than likely the culprit is the halogens. The easiest fix would be to plug halogens into another outlet on a different circuit. If you don't have an outlet available nearby just use a very good extension cord.
