    GTIDamien_407 Birth of a Detailer

Hey guy's I had a neighbour approach me today while I was cleaning my car and he was impressed with the work I've done too and said he was intrested in getting me to do a basic exterior detail on his 2011 Ford F150 equipped with factory chrome 22's. Anyways I wasn't really planning to start detailing until sometime at the end of July/ beginning of August when I would have enough money to buy a DA and all the assorted polishes/ compounds and all that.. Right now i have a basic amateur collection:
    - Sheeps wool mitt (Simoniz), and some other crappy mitt
    - Small bucket
    - Mothers mag and aluminum polish
    - POS old chamois
    - Meg's claybar Ultimate Compund/ Polish/ Wax(liquid)
    - Shitty simoniz rim cleaner/ tire shine
    - Turtle wax bug and tar
    - Small amount of meg's QD left
    - Mothers back to black
    - Blue Windex
    - Lots of free samples of AG shampoo and super resin polish
    - I also have some shitty canadian tire MF's/ glass cleaning towels/ interior mf's aswell as 2 good plush Meguiars MF's.

Anyway's here's what Im thinking of ordering to start of and I was thinking Canadian places only like eshine and autowekes exclusive (The more I can buy in gallons the better, less $$$):

Wash: (I see that alot of you guy's this stuff)
Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss (128oz)Cdn$39.99

Wash Mitt: (Just a regular mitt)
    100% Sheepskin Mitt With ThumbCdn$11.39

Clay: (What do you guy's think of it?)
    Riccardo Clay Blue (8oz)Cdn$21.99

Clay lube: (2oz to make a gallon of clay lube = win) Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine (128oz)Cdn$47.99

APC: (Diluted to 1:5 min so 5l turns to 25l (did I do the math right lol?))
Chemical Guys ACID LIKE Grime Reaper (128oz)Cdn$27.50

Bottles (6): ( Just some regular bottles for apc, claylube etc)
16 oz Empty Detailing Bottle with SprayerCdn$2.50

Now im left with filling these in:
Wax: ( I have the Meg's Ultimate liquid wax lasted about 2 months on my van, Maybe opt for AG HD wax $50? )
    Brushes: (No idea)
Window cleaner: (Will windex be good?)
    Microfibers: (Glass, buffing, drying)
Wheel Cleaner: ( Was told AG CWC was a good product and can get 5l (gallon) for $50 +$9 for shipping or I can get a 500ml (16oz) for $12 or so at Canadian Tire to try out)
Tire dressing: (Thinking of getting AG tyre dressing at Canadian tire for $12)
Vinyl and Rubber: (Same as above, AG vinyl and rubber $12)

Also have a few more questions:
    1. How do you guys go about applying the spray vinyl/rubber and tire dressing?
    2. What do you use to clean door jams diluted ONR and brushes?
    3. Is there a special type of sealent for chrome wheels or can I just use AG SRP
    4. How would I go abouts using the 2 bucket method on a driveway like this would the trolly just roll down lol
    [IMG]
    5. How many cars for example would an AG HD wax canister do? And does it have a longer curing time so I can apply to the whole car and the wipe off like I see some people do?
    6. What would you charge for the detail of this truck wash/ clay/ wax/ dressing, I was thinking $100-120 what do you guys think about 3-4 hours work right?

Sorry for all the questions guy's Im a noob :giggle:

  2. M3ride.

    M3ride. Wax on..Wax off

Don't forget about Auto Obsessed. Its another GOOD place in Canada. Troy is a great guy to deal with.

For wax you definitely can't beat Einszett Glanz. Offers better durability and looks than HD and is cheaper lol.
Window cleaner - can't beat CG Window. That stuff will never streak plus is safe for tint...
Brushes - Swissvax and 5 pack Raceglaze are both the best.
For jambs I use a spray wax/QD and a Microfiber.
There's so many microfibers out there but the Eurow shags from Autowerkes are awesome. And from Auto Obsessed pretty much all of them are great.
The 2 bucket method setup have brakes on the trollies so they won't roll down your driveway no matter how steep it is.
I use yellow applicators to apply tire dressings. Works good for me.

Didn't even know about Auto Obsessed thanks for letting me know about them. I will be for sure try the Glanz wax I've been reading alot of good things about it, same with CG window cleaner. Now what would you guy's recommend for cleaning the barrels/ faces of wheels? And maybe one for cleaning the wheel wells

Also one more question what do you guy's use for drying wheels just a crappy MF?

    Generally that's what I do...

  6. KlineS157

    KlineS157 Birth of a Detailer

Window Cleaner i recommend Megs Window Cleaner Consentrate, Great stuff, Cheap, and wont streak.
Wheel Claner i LOVE Sonax Full Effect, saves lots of time, as not much effort is required.
Tire Dressing, i use Prima Nero, but i tend to stay away from super glossy ones.

Wheel Drying, i use an older waffle weave towel, i tend to replace mine pretty often, then end up getting stained from door jambs and rubber trim. I dont through them away, now i use the stained ones (after cleaned with Micro-Restore of course) for wheels, door Jambs, etc...

    M3ride. Wax on..Wax off

For wheel barrels I like the Raceglaze XL brush or the Daytona Wheel Brush. For the face of wheels I use both the Raceglaze brushes or Swissvax. For wheel wells you can use somehthing like this,
Car Wash Products - Misc - - Long Handle Brush 20"

that and a inexpensive leaf blower, really helps dry out the lug nut holes, tire treads etc.

Make sure it's an electric leaf blower and not gas. The gas ones will spit out who knows what. Plus the electric will be quieter.

Thanks for all the advice and tips!

Yeah looks like im going to go with the Raceglaze brush set for now and the EZ Detail Auto Wheel Brush which is like the daytona brush for the barrels.

I do have a 5 gal CH compressor that I can use for now, I do have a leafblower but it is a gas one :( eventually I'll get the metrovac blow and suck or whatever it's called

    SpecC Wax on..Wax off

Grime reaper at 10:1 and 4:1 was my first APC too. To me, it was the worst one I've ever used. I would recommend not buying it. It's not as cost efficient as other ones I've found. My go-to APC now is Majestic solutions Super Green Stuff at 4:1 for paint and trim and 2:1 for wheels. Meguiar's APCs are also very good.

Two Micro Fiber Wheel Wands - Cleaning Tools - Wheels & Tires - Car Care - Griot's Garage

These would be really really nice (I want to order these too.) for cleaning wheel barrels behind those cars with big brake calipers. The EZ Detail brush is too fat to get into them from my experience.

I think you can live without undercarriage spray too. It was just one of those cherry on the top things for me along with trim dressing.

I'd also recommend adding a stiff tire brush to your cart if one of the RG ones don't suffice.

Now, I know you've already got an expensive cart, but how about these things?
Metal polish - exhaust tips, engine bits (maybe), wheels with polished lips
Sealant - for wheels and anything else that isn't painted; I use Rejex

Don't forget foam applicator pads! They are cheap, and they are very useful in saving product.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Those wheel wand's look nice! good for cleaning wheels like BBS RS and other similair wheels. As for the CG Grim Reaper I've read it's just not that good at cleaning up wheels which I'm not to worried about because Im order AG Custom Wheel Cleaner. I will be using the APC for degreasing the engine bay, cleaning wheel wells, tires and maybe getting bugs off. And for metal polishes I have Mother's Mag And Aluminum Polish (need to buy some #000 steel wool) which ive tried and it works pretty good but I might get something better for later on and for wheel sealent I have a bunch of free sample AG super resin polish that I will try. I've heard it works pretty good as a wheel sealent.

Wash: It's a great soap for stripping LSP. I haven't used it as a maintenance wash though.

Wash Mitt: I heard that is an awesome mitt. I was planning on getting it but it wasn't in stock at the time so I got a GTechniq Merino Wool Mitt. It's crazy soft.

Drying: I like to first dry the car, wheels, and crevices with this Toro | Super Blower | Home Depot Canada and then follow up with my WW drying towels and MF's

Clay: I have the Riccardo yellow clay, it's very easy to mold and works great. I have no experience with the blue one though.

APC: I haven't heard of people using CG GR for paint. It's typically reserved for heavy duty cleaning. If you want a paint safe APC, you can try Optimum Power Clean or Einszett Blitz.

Bottles: I'm assuming those bottles you listed are from eshine. I got two of the same bottles from them and they both leak. I have a bunch of Werkstat ones and they're awesome.

Wheels: I'd get the Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush as well. Personally I think that brush is a must have.

Windows: Make sure you get at least two window towels. One for applying the cleaner and the other for drying the window.

Tire Dressing: I have both Blackfire Long Lasting Tire Gel and AG Tire Dressing. The Blackfire uses next to nothing to get a nice coating on all 4 wheels while I found the AG can go by relatively quickly.

Undecided: I'd skip the undercarriage spray for now. Devote that $56 to a good wax/sealant instead.

    Best of luck!

be-careful of using a compressor, it may shoot out oil from the compressor......... also just get a 150 leaf blower, o r (see bleow) its 30.00 and don't waste money on a dedicated type blower......Not worth the money IMO.

BIGGEST word of advice I can give, buy and use products and equipment that can do dual tasks if possible. While the metro vac is cute and such, get a craftsman or other type "shop vac" that can double as a blower. Craftsman has a vac that is doubles as a 250 MPH blower, so kill two birds with one stone, get a really good vacuum and a blower all in one.

the point of the blower is to blow water out of the seams, cracks wheels etc......... once you have a car properly LSP'd you can actually blow dry an entire car and blot the spots with a nice MF drying towel reducing the risk of marring.

I agree with the not getting undercarriage spray, in fact I took someones advice and tired Stoners Trim shine and it worked better then Bare bones. It applied more even and did not drip or run........ the aerosol atomized the product better.

Thanks Kilo, I've been trying to get my parents to get a shop vac forever now but they keep saying what's the point we can just use the central vac in the garage. What's the point?!?!? I think I can suck up more dirt with my mouth instead of that POS central vac lol. I see that the shop vacs are on sale quite often too so I'm going to have to look for one that does blow and vac and try and get my parents to buy one cause I don't have the money lol.
