I was using Menzerna Power Gloss via PC on a 4" Orange LC pad.

Upon finishing, given the finicky nature of PG, I thought it was remnants from the polish. I sprayed the area down with QD and nothing gives. It's smooth as silk. Any recommendations? I can't imagine I burned through the clear with a PC and orange pad.

That looks like CC failure to me.

+1... Was there a scratch there that you were focusing on?

Got to agree, 4 inch on a PC I have heard of burning through, not easy, but it can be done! :sorry:

Sorry mate, but that does look like cc issue, possible burn. What kind of car is that? Is it Japanese? I've found most Hondas and Acuras have waffer thin cc and terrible paint and using an orange pad with a polish designed for hard cc can be too much.

In the second picture, on the bottom right of the spot, to me it looks like light sanding marks. If that is the case, someone tried to correct the spot. Also around the bottom in the second pic, it looks like a "cloud". I hope you can understand what I'm thinking:shrug:, but a cloud is the clear coat that is missing, ie polished or sanded away. I think someone is in deep doodoo.

It's either clear coat failure, or you burned through a thin spot!

You without a doubt burned the finish.

It's a Crossfire, so it was sprayed by Mercedes. It's not very noticeable under regular lighting, but I'm still going to have it resprayed.

I see what you mean. The cloud toward the bottom right is the micromarring from PG. I still can't believe I burnt through. I'll post up the after pictures of the whole detail in a tad.

Is this your car, or a customer's car?

That sucks, I'm surprised that would happen with a PC.

What about pressure, Maybe you were pushing down too hard on the PC?

Even with a PC, orange pad + compound can generate too much heat, which is why I prefer a Purple Foamed Wool Pad for compounding. I hope it all works out in the end mate.

Even more so with a 4" orange pad (if that's the case). All the heat generated is focused within those 4 inches so the heat generated is rather "focused" and not as easily dissipated as say a larger orange pad. Also, the PC isn't able to "drive" as much with a larger foam pad compared to the 4", if I haven't lost anyone in the translation. Reduced PC speeds are definitely recommended for those who don't have much experience or who are more cautious.

Believe it or not, that's why I was using the 4" pad. I was looking for more cut. I started off with IP and still had some mars, so stepped up to PG. I'm posting up the full detail now, it still came out great. The burn is barely noticeable.

This is my own car, thankfully. I still am suspicious at the level of clear on that area.

Definitely looks like that spot was wet sanded.
