hey guys i am looking for some recommendation on how to restore some headlamps on a nissan altima. l thought about the kits from the online detailing stores but i do have lots of compounds on hand and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. after lots of reading i know i will wet sand with 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, then 3000 grit paper. i do have a flex 3401 and a porter cable with a variety of pads. what compounds would you recommend. if i remember correctly Nica used some menzerna polishes on some tail lights but do not know if it is the same process for the headlamps?

i do have some menzerna, poorboys ssr, 1einzett on hand. thanks

it all depends on how bad the headlights are i think. i used menz SIP, 85rd and Super Finish the other day on an old mitsubishi mirage headlight and it worked great. didnt get the pits out but it definitely removed the cloudyness and small scratches

I had great results with using a 3.5" PFW pad M105, followed by M 105 on 4" LC flat orange pad, M205 or SIP on 4" LC flat white pad, if needed follow up with 85rd on blsck, all with PC. finish with a few coats of fk1000p

Wet sanding is only needed in severe cases, IMO. If you hit it with M105 and a pfw you will eliminate the heavy stuff. Follow it up with a lighter compound and pad and finish with a plastic polish and they will be fantastic.

Richy have you used Past X? If so how would compare the DG plastic polish to it? I was looking at either the reg DG plastic polish or the Track Claw.

I used a LC white pad + Menz IP on a 7424 and it worked pretty well, only minor scratches though.

Sal..I've used 2 products as a plastic polish..the DG one and XMT360. The 360 also does a damned fine job on plastic..check out the S class I did 2 weeks ago and you'll see I only used XMT 360 on the rears and they turned out nice. Track Claw is a sealant that is super, super slick. I don't think it's as good a choice for the lights IF you are looking for a plastic polish per se. A great choice for the front end of the car in general but not specifically a plastic polish. If you've got some XMT 360, try it out on the lights, you'll be surprised.

This is the TC plastic polish I was looking at trying, Duragloss #2935, Track Claw Plastic Polish
Right now the process I use mostly is M105 PFW, M105 or SIP 4" flat Orange LC, SIP or M205 4" flat whie LC pad, FK 1000p x2, I was thinking maybe a good plastic polish maybe a good final step before 1000p.

Sal..I didn't know they had that product...must combine the cleaning ability of the plastic polish with a sealant aspect. When I run out of the other, I will try that for sure.

I think I will give it a try as well, I need some more 501, 111 and TC sealant. I think I will be using DG a lot more
