I had one of my good customers give me a call to get his GTI cleaned up on the outside before a show the next morning. I had performed a two step polish on this one a few months back plus the customer takes good care of his car, so it only needed a good wash and a bit of protection to make it pop. I only had about an hour and a half so I was not able to get any before shots. 2BM with Duragloss 901 Wheels cleaned with 901 Tires cleaned with OPC Tires dressed with Duragloss 281 Poli Seal as LSP Great thanks to the owner for permission to post write up on such an amazing vehicle.
One I got of it in the morning, my brother took the rest of the pictures but didn't take any pictures of the cars in the actual showing area haha..
Wow, I just saw this car in person yesterday. I knew the area looked slightly familiar. It was by heartland town centre. Maybe its a lookalike, but euro tails, and blue wheels was what i noticed, but the car was looking a tad dusty.
Could someone explain to me why VW guys love to stretch their tires so much? IMO, looks dumb and does nothing for performance. I guess if all you care about is "show" and not "go". Even then, I think it looks weird. Maybe I'm old. Car looks great otherwise.
They say in Germany they have a law where the tires can't extend past the width of the fenders or something like that. Hence why they stretch their tires. But the more important reason is for looks. Veedubbers pretty much pioneered the 'low' scene outside of lowriders and minitrucks. So every millimeter matters. You would be surprised how much lower a car sits with stretched tires. Plus if gives you clearance from rubbing on the fenders. Anyone that thinks a VW is a sporty car should think again. They may be sportier than other manufacturers but the low scene is much bigger than the go-fast scene; 'show' factor is a higher priority than 'go' factor. The look is an acquired taste and most people outside of the other categories don't get it (and never will). It's no different to us than for you trying to push the most power out of a car. It's all about personal satisfaction in pushing the limits of what can be done.
Great points. I guess it's like any "hobby" whether it be taking your car to the track (and modding it for that purpose) or as you noted in your post. Guess it's not for me and that's OK if it makes the guys/gals who love it happy.
