Griots DA Users.........

Discussion in 'Tools - Machine Polishers, Pressure Washers, Detai' started by Philbert_Wormley, May 15, 2010.

  1. So, I think I am going to order this DA from Griots today or tommorow but wanted some imput before ordering :paranoia:

    1) What pads work well with this machine

    2) What other BP's/ Pads have you used with this machine

    3) How does this machine compare to any other DA you have used?

    And finally....

Anyone have a discount code and does it apply to this machine :help:

Any other imput would certainally be welcomed :flowers:

This discount code, EMVAMB, is good thru 5-20. It is 15% off if you purchase $150 worth of stuff on their website. I have never changed the backing plate on mine. I have been using 6" uber pads and some of the Griots orange pads. I have their 3" machine for smaller areas. I think it is a great DA and is very powerful. For a weekend warrior like myself it is all I need. With the right pads and polish, I have had a lot of success.

I keep hearing nice things about it, and the lifetime warranty is unbeatable. Good luck with your decision.

    By the way, it's 'input'.

  4. Well, I guess I'll know soon enough. I pulled the trigger this afternoon. I got the model with the 25' cord and a 3 pak of each pad (red/orange) :buffer:

I got a feeling they may have second thoughts about offering a lifetime warranty. I assure you I am going to push this thing beyond its limits :buffing:

Yep, after much thought this unit clearly stands out above the PC or G110V2 IMPO :usa:

Sorry about the spelling error. I will try to do better next time. Thanks for picking me up :graduation:

Umm.. The lifetime warranty is on parts only. It does not cover abuse.

  6. Can you define abuse for me please

I would be willing to bet 90% of the users of this machine probally only use it 6-8 times a year. This is how there able to offer this warranty. I will be putting that much time in on it in a little over a week. Hope they send me a good one :paranoia:

There is a lot more people than you think using this polisher much more frequently. They have a lifetime warranty because they have full confidence in their polisher.

You seriously have to ask what abuse or abusing a machine is? ... It is using it in a manner not directed or recommended by the manufacturer. e.g: Putting too much load on the machine and using excessive pressure, not using it flat and tilting it, accidentally dropping the polisher and cracking the or damaging the motor , shorting it out by getting water on it.

  8. Wow, someone musta put there underwear on backwards this morning :chillpill:

I suppose I should have worded it a bit different. When I say I am going to push this machine beyond its limits. What I mean by this is that I have been a rotary user for over 25 years (day in/day out) I'm just not sure this machine was intended to be used on a daily basis.

I have been hearing for awhile now how so many "professionals" have laid there rotarys down in exchange for a DA. So, I'm getting ready to find out what all the hoopla is about. If nothing else, I will just throw a 4" plate on it and dedicate it to sanding/tight spots.

I was chill when I wrote that. :D I was really more like a rhetorical question. I guess I should of said that differently. Being the internet, its pretty hard to tell what the person is trying to say by just reading empty words.

I've been using a rotary for years also and when I finally got a DA polisher I wasnt all too happy with it. Everything I did with the pc I could of done better and faster with the rotary. Also keep in mind this was years ago with the original porter cable and not the newer more powerful ones now. My DA is now kept away for spot buffing on jabs, wet sanding, and the occasional lsp application when I'm pressed on time and feeling lazy.

I would like to try the Griots 6" polisher the 8.0amp motor is what has my interests not the warranty

  11. Well, this is kinda what I am expecting from a DA so if it can just meet my sceptical expectations all will be good. I really should have purchased some kinda DA years ago anyway :peace:

I might add. Over the years I have used several different products from the Griots line and can honestly say they have never disappointed me in there performance. So I am very anxious to see what this machine is capable of :dbanana:

Yes Sal, the 8 amp motor is what got my attention. Then I noticed they gave a lifetime warranty + 15% off my entire order :wicked:

Could you tell me how it stands out from the Porter Cable. I am new to all this stuff and have narrowed it down to these two.
    Thanks, Rich

Yea, I saw that also. Seems like a good deal if you don't mind dealing with the geek squad. I prefer to purchase mine direct from the source :hmph:

Jon, I did have 1 vehicle this week that had some heavy rids. This did require me to brake out the Iron Horse(Makita) But, I can definately see myself using this machine alot more then I would've thought :buffing:

Wow, that is a really good deal. I received an email from them offering a free 3" polisher w/pads if I purchase a carrying bag for my 6" :crasy:

I must say, coming from a long time dedicated rotary user I am quite impressed with this unit :applause:

The PC has a good long time reputation. I have a pc, gg and mini, Flex rotary and Makita. The GG is a powerful DA, much more than the PC. Will it last longer than the PC we will see. My old pc still runs perfectly, but no where as powerful as the GG.
