what product would you recommend for the plastic trim that is found on vw mkv rabbits and gti's (lower section of rear bumper for example) . I know that i have asked this question before, but I am doing a purchase of detailing supplies this weekend and was seeing if anyone had other suggestions. Also, this time i am more open to different products, just no tropicare because i have no easy way of getting that and blackwow is just a little too expensive for me. Last time i believe that i was limited to either cg barebones or fade to black. Thanks for any suggestions that you have to offer :worship2:
I was about to post that same recommendation as well. You can't go wrong with PoorBoy's Trim Restorer. Ken carries it.
thanks for all of your responses. The trim is in good condition right now. what i am concerned about is keeping it looking new and protect it from being faded from the sun. I also wanted to know how the durability of fade to black is on trim

I have had the best success with Poorboys Trim Restorer. Its a little thick, but it still spreads waaaaaay easier than Black Wow and durability is very good. I got over a month out of the last application. Even after a heavy rain ( I applied it and then backed my truck out in to the pouring rain immediately ) very little ran off the areas I applied it to. I'm sure that had I let it dry, virtually nothing would have ran.
Before I painted my textured lowers on my GTI I used Poorboys trim restorer and it worked great, Stoner's Trim spray worked great as well, also used some water based tire gel and all those work pretty well for a decent amount of time. The best stuff that I found was some Megs trim detailer found at some auto store. It is like CG fade2black but it seems to last a bit longer and give the trim a nice look.
Yep that is the stuff, that is also were I got it from. Worked pretty well for the textured plastic but then I ended up painting the lower parts over the summer. Now I use the stuff to dress the homecomb grill as it can be a paint if you do it by anything else because of all the small holes that would have to be done individually by hand.
would any of these products be able to remove wax residue from the plastic as well? the monkeys at the dealership seemed to think that the plastic needed a good coat of wax (and holograms all over, but thats a different story), so i have wax on pretty much all of the plastic on my car.
To get the wax out use a strong APC solution and see if that helps if not use some IPA and that will get rid of the white wax issue on the plastic.
