Well, tomorrow I have a client, for a full 3 step detail. Thing is, he said he would like to stay with me while I do the job. I am a person who prefers to work on his own, if you know what I mean. I am inclined to somehow tell him, I'd rather be on my own, but if he likes the outcome, he is gonna refer me to another 4-5 people. What would you do?? Vince
I was in a small engine repair shop the other day. There was a sign on the wall that said something like: Basic repair work: $35/hr If you watch: $70/hr If you tried to fix it first: $100/hr Thought it was pretty funny. But it WILL take a lot longer if he's there to watch.
IMO, you must not say this to customer. Its not nice at all. He will sceptical abt your skill as well. You must show to customer how good you are, try to show him 50/50 result. the most important thing, show your professionalism and let him think abt you are the rite person to detail his car Gdluck ...
Oh man, I washed one of my friends vehicles for him and just by knowing he was there, I didn't do as good a job as if I were alone. I prefer to be alone as well, just tell him due to insurance you have to be working alone.
No truer words have ever been spoken. If your plan of attack ussually takes you 6 hours, better plan on 10. Its just impossible to have someone there watching you w/out interacting with them(especially if you do not know this person) You will also catch yourself second guessing yourself on your on methods, everything will be confusing, your game will have left you, but you must push thru it :meditation: If this guy "Really" can hook you up with 5 other quality clients this could lead to thousands of dollars. After they get to know you better they rein's with be cut loose a little more on each visit. Before you know it, you will have the code to there entry gate/remote to there garage and possibly a key to the palace :claping: Not to mention all the other perks that go along with hanging with a hi roller :hmph:
do it with him there. the benefits of him liking your work far outweigh the risk of telling him to get lost. He may just stop in from time to time, probably won't be as bad as you think it will be. Be confident in the level of work you are able to perform. if you think his expectations are unrealistic, maybe show him your process on half a panel start to finish to get his approval and gain his confidence. He'll probably stay out of your hair less too, if you're more open. on the flip side, if he's unhappy you will not have wasted a day or two that he is not willing to pay for. an angry customer can be your worst nightmare... don't forget that you're not selling a product, he's investing in you and your services, and needs to feel good about doing that. Treat him with respect, do a good job and I am suuuure it will pay back many times over!
I think I will give it a go and see what happens really. The worst problem I will be facing infact is time, as this guy talks for ever, when he came to me to see his car he was next to me for 2 and half hours just talking. LOL
I have a client like this. Helluva nice guy, but between him and me running off at the gums a whole day passes in what I couldv'e achevied in a lil more than 1/2 a day. Fortunately for me I suppose, as I charge by the hour :giggle: I vote for you to man up and do the job :headbang:
I have done them many times, and they do take quite a bit longer. But if the customer insists on it, well, it's his car! If there are 4-5 referrals that could come out of it, I'd say suck it up.
Transfer your products to plain bottles if you haven't already done so. If he asks what you are using, nicely tell him that you have developed the system/product usage and product blending over a long period of time and while you don't mind him watching your technique, the products themselves are guarded.
Yeah man do it! it cant be that bad! show off what you can do, and deff show your work, I like to tape one side off and do the 50/50 shot i think someone already said, show them how nice you can make something, it will take longer though, oh well, have fun with it!
man Im new to detailing and my friend wanna watch me detail n learn, lol this is gonna be a disaster. lol
LOL i had a customer want to watch me once. he got his chair, cooler and smokes all ready in front his garage and was waiting for me. so i busted out the equipment, vacuum, generator, and flex. i ran the generator and he was like you can use my electricity, i politely declined. i just told him i am too used to doing it that way. then i turned on the vacuum and left it on. then i turned on the flex. he was shouting trying to talk to me but i couldnt hear him over all three things running. i guess he didnt want to hear all the noise either so he went inside. then i made up an excuse that my generator was glitching and used his electricity and turn everything off. lol i think he got the hint
Key word here boys and girls is Had :graduation: I would have to say if I saw some cat drag his lazy boy out in the driveway, that may make me a little apprehensive aranoia:
I would personally do the job anyway, you produce great work so you have nothing to hide especially when you can get 4-5 referals with the potential for many more cars. The problem I have when a client watches me work is that I can feel a bit rushed to move through things, however I just have to be consciously thinking to keep up a regular pace.
