im going to buy an inexpensive clay kit for my parents today while i buy myself some brushes. I was wondering which one is the best between these 3 OTC products:

    meguiars smooth surface clay kit
    mothers clay kit
    claymagic clay kit.

its mostly about the actual bar, as i can take care of the lube aspect.

    Thanks for any help :thumb:

All of them work fine ... but in my experience, Claymagic tends to remove more contaminants. I use ONR as lube.

A lot of users here have also mentioned that they haven't experienced marring at all.

All of them are the same clay dyed different colors...

Are you sure? Last time I tried Megs Smooth Clay Kit, it felt different than my Yellow Mothers clay... Im pretty sure they are similar but have their differences.

From everything I have heard and seen clay magic makes the clay fro all of those people and Chemical Guys and a whole bunch of other people... they just dyeit different colors... that being said they make 3 different grades, maybe one is the fine and the others are the medium.

Another option is BH clay from Ken, it's not OTC but it's an economical size bar and when you factor in the additional savings by using water as lube...

I have used the TW clay before and I didn't like it. It barely removed any contaminants and it crumbled into tiny pieces before I was done with it.

    +1 ... I also noticed a difference, but I can't recall which one I liked better.

i tried out the clay magic kit on my parent's car the other day, and it was pretty decent. I didnt notice any marring and it did a great job removing contamination.

Maybe ill have to try out the meguiars clay sometime

the megs over the counter kit is ok, but not the best. never tried the mothers. youd be better off ordering online, or stay with claymagic.

im using sonus on my car currently. clay magic really surprised me and the lube supplied was very good, although i had to switch to an ONR mixture because i ran out halfway through.
