Hi guys. I've read a little about glass polishing but not a whole lot. Just a couple of questions? Whats your method of glass polishing? Which products do you use?? Do you use dedicated glass polishes or will reg car polishes work?? Which LC pad do you use or recommend?? Thanks, Heath :shead:
Ditto. I picked up some DuraGloss glass polish and used it once with my PC and a green Edge pad on some glass that was pretty nasty. The green pad was 2 tone black after doing the windshield. It took some gunk off, but I was just kind of shooting from the hip. Not sure if there is a proper procdure, pad, polish combination that works best though.
I used the duragloss glass polish by hand, used it more like a cleaner I guess. It worked well, didnt try it on any glass that was too nasty, but It got the job done. Just applied it with a foam applicator and buffed off with a mf.
This place has a glass scratch repair kit. Uses cerium oxide powder as a medium. Quick-Fix Windshield Repair Supplies
I have polished a few windshields..to remove defects like wiper trail from a bad wiper and fine scratches..and the the only product to remove them is a Cerium oxide kit...it is a powdered cerium and you make a slurry and use a felt pad on a drill to polish out the defects...it works very good but it will not do deep scratches..rock chips and the sand blast pitting effects on glass.. now to just polish glass to make it look good and clear..I use either the Dg or 1Z glass polish...used with a 4" green or white pad on a PC..it really does the glass well...I even polish the inside using a megs foam applicator ..it helped remove the out gassing film on newer cars much easier than glass cleaner..just do not use on film tinted glass... I polish the outside glass on the truck in the spring and again in the fall..be surprised what really gets embedded in the glass... Google cerium glass polish if you need to remove any defects..there is a ton of places ...and price varies..I paid 29.00 for mine as Caswell plating....nice kit.... AL
I just use a compounding pad on my UDM with some 1Z glass polish. Makes a huge difference. There's no trick to it. You should see your pad turn black if the glass is dirty at all. Clean the glass first, and polish. You can see your results if you get the glass slightly wet after you polish. This will highlight any contaminants that have adhered to the glass.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've been wanting to do this to my windshield for a while now. I'm just wanting to get an idea of how you guys go about this. Thanks agian. Cooter not to be confused with Pooter hehehe
Cooter, you can use the sample i send you (Chrome and Glass Polish) if you want to by hand or machine (PC).
Sweet. Thanks Angelo. I completely forgot about that!!!! I think I've got some VM. Thanks Daniel. Thank you all for the replies. Heath
