well i finally got some free time a couple weeks ago so i set aside the weekend to get down to correcting my girlfriends new 2007 Audi A4 Cabriolet in Moro Blue. the paint was pretty hammered up by improper car care as well as the dealers poor attempt at correcting it. on top of this, two more obstacles were that the hood was resprayed, badly, as was the rear bumper. there was a hell of a lot of dirt stuck in the hood and too much orange peel for my liking. the rear bumper was sprayed by a mobile bumper repair guy at the dealer in the parking lot. the peel was bad, and the blends leading up to the panel gaps on both sides were horrible. knowing all of this, i phoned roger (slanguage) to see if he would like to come out and give me a hand with it, as i knew i wouldnt be able to finish this off in two days time, with all the sanding and whatnot firstly we tackled the wheels. Sonax Full Effect was used on the fronts and Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner on the rears, just to compare. then we cleansed the paint with a foaming of rogers super secret concoction! roger loves his foam cannon! time to wake the neighbors with the gas powered beast. roger relieving some pressure next we clayed and then began to take extensive paint measurements. the car ranged from a hairy 99.5 microns to readings up in the 180-190 range As you can see, some of the scratches were already "tended to" by the dealer
this is the rear bumper with the bad blends and a run or two for good measure an example of the imperfections on the hood that would be tended to via DA sander and some befores then on with the DA sanding of the hood. the dirt and fisheyes were attacked with 3M Trizact 1500. then the whole hood was gone over with 3M Trizact 3000 remember those bad blends? double checking the hood after sanding
now we got down to business. compounding was carried out with Uber Yellow Pads, and both M105 and SIP depending on what was needed. speeds were 900/1100-1800/1900 depending on user and machine with moderate to heavy pressure. some 50/50's after compounding and other misc shots at this point after finishing compounding, we called it a day. thanks again for your help roger!
started out the next day by getting rid of all the dust and oils. car was powerwashed and then soaked with zep citrus at 3:1 to remove oils and compound in the jambs, panel gaps, etc. here you can see exactly why its a good idea to cleanse the paint after heavy correction since we were able to finish down the M105 and SIP very well, and time was running out on me fast, i decided to go straight to finishing the paint with 85RD and blue uber pads on the flex. spread at lowest speed setting, then brought up to about 1400, then back down. i really worked the panels for quite some time as i really wanted to bring the most out of the shine, depth and clarity as i could. some shots before LSP
After LSP Shots. LSP was two coats of Menzerna Powerlock. i finished late, so the lighting unfortunately was not the best The happy new owner This section i would like to dedicate to our dog, murphy, who was tragically taken from my girlfriend and me by a speeding car only two days later. he loved to spend time with me while i am detailing, and really was my best friend. he spent the whole weekend with us while detailing my girlfriends car as well. rest in peace muphy. we will love and miss you forever. as always, thanks for looking guys!
Very nice job Bill & Roger. That was quite an undertaking :applause: Very sorry to here about Murphy. That really sucks big time :drinking2:
That's some nice foam. Wonder who made that up? RIP to murphy. Glad I could help Bill. Defenitely was some work!
thanks guys! let me know when you want to get down on your truck roger. id be glad to come up to help.
Damn now that was a project and a half. Car turned out fantastic! I wish i could finish down the paint that well from those pads/compound combo's. What's your secret? RIP to Murphy. I'm a huge dog lover myself. That's really sad. I hope that those people get what they deserve man. I would have went nuts.
To tell the truth, I can't remember all of what was in there. But I'll try. MS Super Foam CG CWG DG 901 Showroom FX Citrus pre-cleaner 1Z Perls and I think that's it. I called it Roger's Bastard Blitz. I used the last of it on this detail, and will not make it again. I think this was what I used but can't remember.
I've been waiting for this detail for a while. You and Rog did a hell of a correction on it. Really sucks about the dog, I'm a canine fiend and I know what it's like.
I have never seen foam so thick. You should market this stuff to Phil opcorn: Rogers Bastard Blitz..... :giggle:
