OK, my brother stopped by for some help getting his relatively new RR Sport cleaned up. The body was not bad but the brake dust as you can see from the pictures is very bad. This was greasy brake dust. I used P21S Gold Gel which has never failed me along with assorted brushes and Q tips. Applied very heavy and let to dwell for 5-7 minutes. Each wheel was done twice. There is some remaining dust in the inner crevices of a few chambers. You can see it in the after picture in the chamber 2 and 3 to the left of the air valve. They are like crumbs of brake dust. I almost thought they might be tar but it was coming off ever so slowly with P21S. Can you use Tarmonator on CC rims? TIA for any assistance with this issue.
I would try an iron neutralizing product first like mentioned above. Wheel Brightener should do the trick too. Tarminator is safe for wheels though, just don't let it dry out. Max dwell time should be around 5 minutes, then agitate with your brushes and pressure wash off.
IronX was flawless for this kind of stuff when I used it on a BMW. The pitting caused by the brake dust was completely gone with 1 hit of the stuff.
If you already have Tarminator on hand, then just use that. Let it dwell for 30 seconds and then agitate and rinse. Based on how well the wheel turned out (for the most part), you should be able to remove the remaining brake dust fairly easily with a stronger product. It's just that in those corners of the wheel spokes, it's hard to move the brake dust out of there. Try agitating with a microfiber towel instead of just a brush.
I would use either Iron Cut or Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner. I would pull the wheels off and get them cleaned up....never heard of P21S Gold is that new? Once the wheels are off get a clay bar and that should get to the corners.
JSFM35x - Looks like the wheel you did is light years better than before - great job!! If you are looking to do them completely perfect once and for all, then I agree, you have to pull them off and that will make it way easier, but also present more work that you cant see or get to as well. Dont know what other chemicals you have in your inventory, but the one suggested here should all work great. I use occasionally, Meguiars wheel brightner mixed at their suggested rate and it always knocks the stuff off with some brushing. The newer cleaners Iron-x, Iron-cut, etc., should be even better I imagine. Good luck with this. Dan F
The gold box it the gel and the silver box is the liquid. I like the gold box better and not even sure the silver box is still around. I have a local Auto Body Supply that stocks it in town. I hardly use any wheel cleaner now as soap does the trick for me most of the time but my brothers RR dusts worse tham my previous BMW. (which I thought was impossible!) As far as getting the wheels off-don't I wish-I am not set up/have the desire to pull wheels although sometimes I think about it. I have some clay I got from you in the last shppment-never thought clay would pull what my finernail would not but hey-I am here to learn! And teach others whatever I figure out along the way.
