 im thinking about getting a gas powered pressure washer. what is the max psi i should get? i see alot of people using electic with psi from 1500-1800. but all the gas are 2500 and up, is that to much? aslo are craftsman good?
Well this is just my opinion and I'm no expert on pressure washers are I've just recently started using a gas powered pressure washer my self. I personally went with a gas pressure washer because I didn't want to worry about an extension cord wile I was giving my house a good rinse. As for the high PSI values on the gas pressure washers, well it's really not necessary, I mean if all your going to use the pressure washer for is to wash vehicles with you'll just stick to the 'delicate' tip...well that's what I've done so far. Oh I didn't know this but found out very fast that the pressure is determined by the tip attachment used, like I said I've only used the 'delicate' tip (yellow one I think it is). Any who, the point I'm trying to make is that you don't really need a high PSI pressure washer but there is nothing wrong with having a bit of extra PSI as you might one day need it...having said that 1,500 to 1,800 is about the normal range to wash a vehicle with...so I've read and have been told. Hope this helps and if I'm mistaken please correct me, as I said before I'm just getting my feet wet when it comes to pressure washers.
It isnt necessarily the max PSI that is most important...i would say it is the gallons per minute that the pressure washer can put out. I believe the 40* tip is what i used to use before mine got stolen, i havent picked another up yet but will be soon. They are a great tool, i preferred the gas ones to the electric because of the bad luck i have had with electric units in the past. I bought a Troy Bilt 2500 Max PSI 2.4 gallons per min with a Honda motor from Lowes for 329.00...very nice PW, i hope it blows up on whoever stole it
JBell is right. The psi is secondary to gpm ( gallons per minute ). The more water your unit flows, the more cleaning power you will have. Anything in the 2.0 - 2.4 gpm will give you excellent cleaning ability at 1800psi. Just remember, with ANY pwasher, do not let it run for more than a couple of minutes without pulling the trigger. Reason being, the flowing water is what cools the pump and if you are not running water through the pump, it will boil the water off in a few minutes and after time, this will lead to premature pump failure. The nice thing about the newer Karcher electrics is that they run off a trigger switch. Pull the trigger to start the pwasher and let go to shut it off. The pump is never working unless water is flowing through it.
thanks for all the info very helpful as always. right now i could get a new craftsman for a good price. thanks :mounty:
Shopping for a new pressure washer after my $100 Harbor Freight POS died on me. Seriously considering gas instead of electric. Anyone have an opinion on this one? Ridgid makes a good shop vac. Does that translate at all into their PW's? Customer reviews for the most part are positive. Plus, the return policy at Home Depot just can't be beat. If this one dies on me prematurely, I'll just bring it back. RIDGID 3000 PSI, 2.6 GPM, CAT Pump, Pressure Washer - RD80701 at The Home Depot
I had 2 eletric pressure washers,i now got a gas husky 2600 psi 2.3 gpm pump went out because i ran bleach through the detergent system!DOH! lol but other wise than that it works great!just change the oil and drain the water out of the pressure washer when ur done!
Will you be using it at your customers house and hooking it up to their water outlet, or hooking it up to a water tank on your vehicle?
I just bought this pressure washer. You will not find a better pressure washer at that price anywhere. Pums are what make the washer and CAT pumps are great.
Fantastic! Glad to have a member here give an endorsement. Think I'll be getting that one. Question for ya. What kind of maintenance is required for that unit? How loud is it compared to an electric unit? Thanks!
Keep an eye on the oil level and follow the manufacturers recommendations for oil changes. It will be quite a bit louder than an electric - probably by at least 30 or 40 db.
Ugh. I thought the electric one was already too loud. Ah well. My neighbors will have to suffer. lol I stopped by the local HD to take a gander. Rugged looking piece of machinery. Didn't have the wherewithall to drop $600 today, so I'll be back for it soon....
Anyone with a gas unit have problems with the carburators? Rather not have to deal with the choke, but the DFI versions are quite a bit more expensive.
I have the same one for a year and half and works great for me no problem...got a great deal. I work at a lowes that helps out, got one that was repaired over half off...look for those..:applause2:
I just bought the Ridgid gas unit and the foam gun attachment. Going to fire it up next weekend. If all goes well, my Gilmour FG (unused) will be up for sale!
Wow, the Ridgid unit kicks some serious ass. Loud as all get out (probably 2-3x louder than the dinky electric unit I had). That combined with the $20 foam cannon attachment....mmmm....washing bliss.
