I bought it from autogeek before I got a separate idea from the post you talking about on autopia.. The one in the pic is water softener and not deionization resin.. I made a crspotless from two big blue canisters I bought from ebay for $70(same as it uses), and a dual inline tds meter(ebay) to read the water going in and out( i even mounted it in the back like it is on a CRSpotless), and I bought two cartridges from CRSpotless themselves.. I think I spent $230 total.. but I wanna try one cartridge with cation resin and one with anion resin next time so that I can recharge the resin.
Hmm, gotta look into that... can you link me to the ebay page for the canisters? I think you should give a ball park range for your items, makes it easier to offer you a price.
