This isn't your typical detail. I was contracted to fix this Chevelle after it returned from a body shop. This is how the car was received. I could not believe how this shop thought they could deliver a car like this. I was shocked. This car has not been on the road yet, and it looks 10 years old. This is where they painted over rust. I ground out the putty and sealed the area with POR 15. This shot is of the front window. You can see where they didn't shape the panel to the molding. These are more shots of the sanding marks they left behind. Why would you put on the wheel well moldings and then try and polish? That is all I have time tonight to upload. I will post the afters tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
wow, I hope that wasn't considered to be a respectable shop...that is terrible..I would be pissed if I owned that car.
All right. Here are the afters. The first two shots are after I painted the roof and both quarters and wet sanded the finish. I started with 1500 then went to 2000 and finally 3000. As you can see, the 3000 leaves behind a nearly shiny finish. The rest are the finished product. At least my finished product. I fixed the area around the front windshield and the top of both quarters. I used Spies Hecker paint and House of Color clear. For the compounding I used wool pad and a local product call Heavy Cut. Then I moved to my favorite SIP and Uber green pads. I went around the car two more times, once with 106FA and white LC CCS pad and finally I jeweled with 85RD and Uber blue. Please tell me what you guys think. You are the ones that showed me how this is done. Now I am getting to be known around here as the guy who can fix things. The LSP on this is Wizards Breathable Sealant.
Hey man you should enter this into the monthly competition. Good luck bro. The Show Room - Detailing Bliss Monthly Competition at DetailingBliss.com/forum/
Great work on an incredible car. Man you did everything you could possibly do to get a flawless finish. Awesome to see such thorough work on a car.
Man, you guys are fast. I just got finished up loading this stuff. Thanks for all the kind words. It took me six days to complete. But I thought the out come was worth it. SSTG, I didn't know I could enter a monthly competition. I didn't do a full detail, only the exterior. I would like to enter it. Should I repost all the pics, or post a link?
Awesome job. I think I'd probably cause some bodily harm if that were my car and it was delivered to me like that. Nothing worse than spending a ton of money only to get shoddy results.
yeppp...typical body shop BS.....the shop i do some work for locally has tons of trouble finding a quality detailer....every time they hire a new guy (seems like its monthly) they call me in to teach him some tricks...i leave there shaking my head at the lack of caring and skill on the so called DETAILERS part....they just dont give a crap..... one gripe i have with all of them is that they think they can just sand a panel flat and its OK....they never try to get the peel on the re sprayed areas to match the factory peel....its not hard to do just takes some time and skill which i guess they are lacking in..... the shop owner is out of his mind and pulls every car out in the sun in every angle possible to make sure the color matches and there are no mistakes and especially NO HALOGRAMS OR BUFFER TRAILS.....he is sooo frustrated....he wants me to come to work for him full time but says he cant afford me..LOL.... shame of it is that the final finishing is the most important step to a good body job and body shop detailers just think ahhh its good enough and try to pas it off....really sad....
Here's the rules... http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f45/rules-please-read-before-posting-969.html I've seen just exteriors entered before.:thumb: Good luck to you.
:worship2: Wow! That's a great turn around man. Somebody should kick those idiots from that body shop in the nutz.
The real crazy story about this car is the owner hasn't seen it for 2 years. These brothers that I know recommended the shop that did the work. The brothers felt so bad when the car was dropped off to them, they told the shop to go fly a kite. The shop was not going to touch the car again. So the brother hired me, not the owner. Now they feel comfortable calling the owner when the car is finally finished. The brothers built a big block for the car, I think it is a 71. They are also putting in Vintage Air and a new dash and door panels. I think body shops should have full time knowledgeable detailer's. But then again it would cut into my play money. Thanks very much for the feedback you guys have given.
