A friend of mine is getting his 1990 honda accord repainted(maroon). He wants me to wax/seal the paint for him after the paint job. I've never tackled a repaint so fresh before. I suggested that we should wait about a month to let all the clear/paint harden up .. even then i'm scared the paint/clear will still be a bit soft. I know he feels that month of not having anykind of wax on his car is going to ruin is paint job. .. Honestly I have no clue on how long he should wait before he gets a good wax on his car. I'll have him ask his body shop guy ..

I need suggestions on how to take care of is car. Any clue on how long he should wait after a new paint job to detail his car? Products to best seal his paint? Suggestions on not marring his new paint? thanx in advance.

Wait about 30 days for the wait to out gas before putting wax/sealant on it. You can use a pure glaze and glaze without any issue. Glaze will provide some protection but a few weeks w/o proper protection is not going to kill the paint job. Just keep up on it and wash it regularly if it rains so you do not get etching and what not.

The paint will not be ultra soft but will be a little softer but that would be great for you as it will be faster and easier for you to correct. You can do correction work right when it comes out the pain booth just not put sealant/wax on it. Cars are cut and buffed right after the baking processes when cars are repainted so no worries there. Should use body shop safe polishes (Menzerna, Megs 205/105, 3m) so be extra safe not to cause any paint defects due to silicone during final out gassing processes.

Also, will you be using a DA or a rotary? Is the body shop going to be doing any buffing work on it at all or will they be handing it over right out the paint booth?

I'm not too sure if the body shop will to any buffing work out of the booth .. i would think so. I give a bottle of glaze to my buddy and have him use that for up keeping until a month or so goes by. I was planning on using a DA to be on the safe side, as I was scared to use a rotary because of the softness. I prefer the rotary.

After I take a look at his paint in about a month or so, and feel comfortable with moving onto a full polish, i'll decide on either a DA or Rotary ..I was also thinking about trying some new stuff and adding to my artillery. I was looking at a bonding agent such as Vertua-Bond 408. What are your guys' take on the product? worth it? i've never tried, but maybe this is a chance to do so? lol.

If you dont tell the body shop not to touch the paint they will hit the paint with a rotary with some wool most likely. So you have no worries on using a rotary if you have done corrections on other cars with them, and if you have done correction work with a rotary on softer clears such as Japanese cars then you have no worries.

yeh i've done numerous cuts on japanese cars.. usually cus they are the most beaten on.. lol. But I like to stay on the lighter side of cutting, that's if I have to cut. lol
