Up today was a Four Winds Horizon 200. I was told to simply wash the algae off and give it a light polish with paint cleanser. I thought to myself sweet a short day. Boy was i wrong. Turns out the boat was in wet dock all year and he pulled it out and it has been sitting at his house since last winter. First step was to bust out the PW to see how much would come off. When the water hit the algae the smell was so bad that the owner of the shop actually threw up. Well the pressure washer took off all of the large stuff but left behind was the hardest substance i have ever encountered. So we sat back and thought about it for a minute and tried a few degreasers. Well the algae that was still on the hull was like concrete so we reevaluated. After a few phone calls and research we found our solution. Muratic Acid. First off if you have not used MA before dont unless you absolutely have to. Its primary use is to eat away concrete to prep it for paint. It is nasty stuff. It took the Algae off with ease without damaging the gelcoat. On to the horrific before's
