FLEXLK603VVB any good?

I'm looking to get my first rotary but quite honestly with a rather small budget. I found the flex lk603vvb which is their full size rotary for cheap($145) . I have used a makita and loved it and basically was just looking to see if anyone had any input on this tool? Thanks

The Makita is, IMO, a better machine. The Flex is louder.

 

I would look into a Hitachi SP18VA rotary if you like the Makita. Both machines are very similar, plus the Hitachi has a 5 year warranty. I know several Pro Detailers who use this machine, they all say its very reliable. Unlike the Flex rotary you are considering, the Hitachi's speed will go as low as 600rpm vs 1000 w/ the Flex. Also the Hitachi has an Electronic Feedback Control which maintains constant rotation speed while the polisher is under load. I do not think the larger Flex model is equipped w/ this feature.

I recently sold my Makita to my cousin after it died out on me after years of use. I think my next rotary will be a Hitachi if I'm low on funds, or If I decide to save up another Makita. The Makita was a great tool, but my cousin needed a rotary so I gave it to him cheap and he had it refurbished. So in the end I got a down payment into my next polisher and he got a good deal on a tool he needed. Check into both polishers. Their both great.


You may also want to check into the Porter Cable 7428. I've heard rumors that its the exact same as the Flex LK603VVB. If I'm not mistaken, Porter Cable actually purchased Flex many years ago. The PC 7428 from what I can tell is the Flex only with different Company Badge. Take a look at this: Review: Porter Cable 7428 Rotary Buffer

 

Where is that PC available?

 

As far as I'm aware, Porter Cable sold off Flex several years ago. This came from a Dewalt rep. The reason why I am so interested in the 603vvb is simply because I am not a professional and just cant see spending that much for another polisher.( I have two 7424's and a Flex 3401). So basically for a beginner/intermediate user will it suffice?
