    Hi guys,

I've recently bought a PC and earlier today embarked on polishing the car for the first time. It's an older '87 Porsche 928 which I bought a few months ago...

I've bought Adam's polishes - Swirl & Haze Removed, Fine Machine Polishing and Machine Wax. I've started off with a blue pad (bought at DD) and Fine Machine Polishing and it immidiately started transfering paint to the pad. Looks like previous owner sprayed a thin layer of paint to cover some scratches or something (I did not go through original clear coat, see pictures).

Anyway, I did one panel and removed some of the scratches. However that brought another problem - see pictures. That's after Swirl & Haze on orange pad. It looks like small specks in the paint or something. Not even sure how to better describe it. What should be my next step? Should I upgrade to a more aggressive yellow pad or should I go for a more aggressive compaund (which one?). Or maybe it will go away after waxing the car?

And one last question. I've masked the car with 3M tape. How long can I keep it on the car? I originally planned to polish the car today, but now it looks like it will stretch into at least several days. Is it safe to keep it masked or would I better be off removing it?

    Thank You!

Thats pitting in the paint. After just years of the car sitting out and driving the paint changes and makes these pits. I have a lot on the CRV and its quite annoying, but no amount of polishing will remove them (as far I know)

Thanks - anything I can do to make pitting visiable?

    Thank You!

What color is the 3m masking tape? I would suggest you use the 3m painters tape; ie blue or green as they are relatively safer for using on painted surfaces. As another note, 3m also makes a tape specially for "delicate surfaces" which I would advise to use for your door handles if they are plastic painted. It will be less likely to strip the paint on those types of surfaces. The blue tape says it's safe for upto 14 days of use and the green I think is 7 or 8 days.

    Bentley,

    I've used green 3M 233+ masking tape. So it's 7-8 days, right?

    Thanks!

As stated above, its just pitting in the paint. Not a whole lot you can do about it. My Passat has that all over the hood as well. As for the tape, leaving it on for a few days while you polish shouldn't be a problem.

How about using something like Chemical Guys Extreme EZ-Creme Glaze? Will that help hide pitting?

    Thank You!

I don't typically use glazes but it may help.

Thanks! If you do not use glazes, is there another trick to make pitting less visable? Or will it become not noticable after I apply wax (planning to put Adam's Machine Super Wax as base, followed by Adam's Americana)?

    Thank You!
